Summary
CAN HERCULE POIROT SOLVE A BAFFLING MURDER MYSTERY IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS?
It’s 19 December 1931. Hercule Poirot and Inspector Edward Catchpool are called to investigate the murder of a man in the apparent safe haven of a Norfolk hospital ward. Catchpool’s mother, the irrepressible Cynthia, insists that Poirot stays in a crumbling mansion by the coast, so that they can all be together for the festive period while Poirot solves the case. Cynthia’s friend Arnold is soon to be admitted to that same hospital and his wife is convinced he will be the killer’s next victim, though she refuses to explain why.
Poirot has less than a week to solve the crime and prevent more murders, if he is to escape from this nightmare scenario and get home in time for Christmas. Meanwhile, someone else – someone utterly ruthless – also has ideas about what ought to happen to Hercule Poirot …

Excellent story and marvellous narration
It’s like Agatha Christie herself had written. Very intelligent plot and engaging story. The narrator manages to give life to the characters in particular the Detective Hercule Poirot.

Great festive listen!
Big fan of Sophie Hannah’s Poirot stories, and this is another great addition - I also absolutely love the narrator, he does such a fantastic job! This one was a wee bit long winded and obvious, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it!

Very Christie-like.
This Sophie Hannah book produces the most "real" Poirot of all of her books, so far: the writing was pithier and more Christie-like than all of the other books which are all excellent but, to me, never absolutely rang the Christie bell. The story is excellent in every aspect of the Christie whodunnit style, the reading is superb, as always, and Catchpool comes into his own as a character that can join the ranks of the great lady's own Poirot sidekicks. The denouement is stunning in it's revelation, and the book ends in a wonderful manner with a explanatory missive from one of the characters and a cracking little joke from the great detective. Wonderful!

Not as good as Agatha Christie
I’ve enjoyed other Sophie Hannah books but this one wasn’t as good, nor as good as Agatha Christie

Intriguing story
Quite intricate, so not particularly one to listen to while doing something else. Really enjoyed the narration and characterisation. Really wanted to see how it was resolved.

It’s difficult to follow the great AC
It wasn’t terrible, it just wasn’t compelling… I started drifting in the middle as the characters didn’t come alive for me and too many were too similar.. the denouement seemed to go one forever - not my favourite!!!

Still no idea what happened
Started off great Poirot and Catchpool on a train to a old family house with a beach. Then all the unintresting characters made their appearance confused the whole book and an ending from nowhere. So wanted to love this but left feeling so disappointed

Slow to start but picked up and brilliant narration .
I’m a huge Sophie Hannah fan and her Poirot books have been a triumph . While this one was a little slow and complicated to start, the plot gathered pace and created an ending Agatha Christie would be proud of. Julian Rhind Tutt can do no wrong as a narrator , he’s brilliant .

Drawn out disappointment
I was looking forward to this book as I enjoyed the previous in the series. However this was ambling and never seemed to get any pace. Many of the twists were both mild and a stretch, quite a feat. The denouement broke several rules with unknown information introduced and I echoed the characters impatience for an ending. When it came, it was strange, again both unrealistic and quickly resolved without drama. Therefore the motive seemed obsolete. As ever, Rhind-Tutt is divine in his narration and Catchpoole and Poirot are a delight in the dullness.
