Summary

The Phenomenal Sunday Times Number-One Best Seller.

"It was the start of the third lap of the 2010 Senior TT, the last race of the fortnight. The last chance to get a TT win for another year, and I was pushing hard. Ballagarey. The kind of corner that makes me continue road racing. A proper man’s corner. You go through the right-hander at something like 170 miles per hour, leant right over, eyes fixed as far down the road as I can see. But this time something happened. This time the front end tucked...."

Guy Martin, international road-racing legend, maverick star of the Isle of Man TT, truck mechanic, and TV presenter lives on the edge, addicted to speed, thoroughly exhilarated by danger.

In this book we’ll get inside his head as he stares death in the face and risks his life in search of the next high.

We’ll discover what it feels like to survive a 170 mile per hour fireball at the TT in 2010 and come back to do it all again. He’ll sweep us up in a gritty sort of glory as he slogs it out for a place on the podium, but we’ll also see him struggle with the flipside of fame. We’ll meet his friends and foes, his family, his teammates and bosses, and we’ll discover what motivates him and where his strengths and weaknesses lie.

For the first time, here is the full story in Guy’s own words, from the boy who learned to prep bikes with his dad to the spirited team mechanic paying his way by collecting beer glasses in pubs to the young racer at the start of his first race and the buzz he’s been chasing ever since.

This thrilling autobiography is an intense and dramatic ride.

very good book

very interesting book, but would've preferred it if it had been read by the author. some of the pronunciation was a bit Lancashire rather than Lincolnshire but I'm probably being picky. I know nothing about bike racing but may even watch a bit now, he explained things well. very intriguing about Mr x.

First audiobook

Great to find someone passionate about there sport, and down to earth. Easy to listen to yet you can feel the oil building under your nails as Guy pushes to get his own way.

Straight as a Die

This book is first rate, a sort of boy's own. Guy Martin loves hard work and motor bikes in equal measure. This Audio book is interesting and honest, just like Guy . I've just bought his second book, When your dead your dead, and can't wait to start. Thanks Guy.

Interesting man with an interesting story

This is a really good book. I first got into guy Martin watching closer to the edge and he refers to it in his book as we find out about life's ups and downs. Really interesting and if you like guy Martin on TV you will enjoy the book

Very Technical. For bike racing lovers.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Career of Guy Martin so far was interesting. I found the technical specifications of all the bikes a bit too much.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Bike racing truck Mechanic.

mainly based on the motorbike side of his career

very interesting, focuses mainly on his motorbike career. great story well written. narration could have been better but that's just my personal preference. I found it better to listen at x 1.25 speed as the narrator was a little slow speaking for my liking. I would highly recommend this audiobook for anybody interested in guy and his early days, mainly outside of the tv career
