About this listen

Spooky reverse harem that bends the tropes...

Weird. Creepy. Frumpy. Boyish. At the young age of 29, reluctant necromancer Esper Jones is an outcast, labeled “the old witch on the hill” and avoided by all sane residents of the tiny village of Hellsfork Michigan. And that’s just fine with her. Dealing with people has all the appeal of poking her own eyes out.

But Esper’s quiet world is upset when a strange, beautiful man named Toma blows into town and destroys the walls Esper has carefully built around herself. Esper has never met another supernatural before, and she finds herself oddly drawn to the pretty medium who claims he can speak to ghosts.

Drawn into the medium’s crazy enthusiasm for rescuing people who are already dead, Esper finds herself traipsing through cemeteries and using the curse she has always hated to wake the dead and ask for answers.

Because, the ghosts of Hellsfork are restless, and only Esper and Toma can help put them to rest.

Author’s note:

Fed up with the usual tropes in romance and reverse harem? Me, too! I aim to create characters that represent real people, which means you will encounter characters that are more than the fainting female and alpha male cookie cutter stereotypes that saturate the genre. (There’s nothing wrong with it if you like that sort of thing, but it just got old for me!) People come in all shapes, sizes, personalities, and gender/sexual orientations - so when I pick up a book and have trouble telling the difference between the characters...that’s a problem.

Esper starts in a place of very low self-esteem (a place that is, unfortunately, familiar for many of us). I know this might be jarring for some of my Gesa's Menagerie fans. We can't all come on the scene gryphon strong, but she will grow throughout the series.

The Reluctant Necromancer series is a sequence of novellas in which, while the main plot arc in each book will be resolved, there may be mild cliff-hangers/segue into the next book with new issues arising.

This author’s characters are as flawed and damaged as real life - do not listen to it if you are easily offended by talk of past trauma of any kind. (No explicit scenes of this nature, generally, but they will talk about what’s happened in the past, and it may be distasteful if you are easily triggered).

Contains mature adult content, including but not limited to: graphic sex, adult language (that means swearing, folks), and fictional situations with mild gore and or action/violence.

This is a reverse harem urban fantasy, and the author firmly believes love is love, and as such includes themes of: polyamory (multiple lovers), MF, MMF, MM, FF, and MMMFF love.
