Summary

Perry McCarthy is simply unique; he is an ex-Formula One racing driver and was 'The Stig’ from the world-wide BBC Top Gear TV show.

Highly popular in the world of motor racing, The Telegraph headlined him as ‘a new cult hero’, The Times called him ‘the world’s unluckiest racing driver and America’s Sunday Express described him as a ‘comedian locked inside a racing driver's body’.

Flat Out Flat Broke, with an amusing and poignant Foreword by 1996 F1 World Champion Damon Hill, is his hilarious and internationally acclaimed autobiography which takes you on Perry’s roller-coaster adventure as he battled on and off the racetracks of the world to fulfil his dream of Grand Prix stardom.

Receiving fantastic reviews as one of the bestselling motor racing books of all time, Perry’s story will have you on the edge of your seat, either on the verge of tears or howling with laughter at both his bizarre misfortune and his triumphs against the odds.

Don't miss it. It's the life story of a battler, a maestro in so many disciplines. But overall, Perry McCarthy knows how to recover from failure and create success. From working on oil rigs to fame as The Stig, Flat Out Flat Broke is an utterly fascinating read and you will see why even other racing drivers affectionately call him ‘Mad Dog’!

A saga of determination, humility and humour

His unbounded self belief, humour and a little help from his friends makes the whole journey entertaining. Especially if you are a follower of motorsport and recall the 80s and 90s in particular. As well as the background to his ‘alter ego’

Absolutely amazing! A must listen for any F1 fan

Perry McCarthy’s unbelievable story is one you need to hear, his performance in his audiobook makes you not want to stop listening as it goes from unbelievable tale to unbelievable tale. From the lengths he’d go to for sponsorship to the bizarre days of Andrea Moda Formula, I couldn’t have been more entertained. I really cannot recommend this audiobook enough!

True grit and determination

Perry, loved your book. Can’t believe I missed it first time around. Great narration. Took me back to Vallelunga and pre season F3000 testing. You were already an after dinner speaker!

Very funny

I'm a big F1 fan but I didn't know much about Perry before listening to this. It's a very absorbing listen and the fact the man himself reads the book makes it more genuine. it brilliantly funny in places and he deals with the difficult and tragic moments of his career very well. I'd put this as a must read for any motor racing fan.
