About this listen

The city of the gods. Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. A sprawling metropolis of unrivaled grandeur, it was a symbol of power and strength, built to be as imposing as it was magnificent.

The only thing more glorious than the city itself was its inhabitants, godlike beings, with silvery skin and hair of the purest, flowing white. Able to create powerful magics with a mere wave of their hands, the Elantrians were able to heal mortal wounds and create any object they desired. To be an Elantrian was to be without sickness, without pain, and without want.

And anyone could become a god. Through a process known as the "Shaod", a normal person could go to bed one night and awake the next morning to throw away the shackles of mortality and become a being of incomparable power and grace. With Elantris as their beacon, the light inside all humanity was allowed to shine, elevating it to new heights.

But Elantris fell...10 years ago.

The weakest entry in the cosmere

I liked the graphic audio performances. But after having read mistborn, stormlight and warbreaker beforehand I was a bit disappointed overall.

Excellent story, but too noisy

I've read the book several times, and have listened to the regular audio twice, and the story is great. But this adaptation has far too much noise going on, the music and other noise ids too loud, which makes it hard to follow.
I strongly recommend the regular audio instead!

Engaging story, well performed

This book has all the elements of epic fantasy - heroes and villains, magic and monsters, seemingly impossible odds to overcome. The story has engaging characters and plot twists aplenty. I really enjoyed the dramatized adaptation, which brought the characters and story to life.

poor production, distracting background noise

Awful adaptation with unnecessary background music and noise effects that distract from the dialogue.

Great production, terrible accents

I really like Graphic Audio productions in general, I think they strike just the right balance in almost every way. This one is no exception, and the story is great (not one of Sanderson’s finest, but that’s a high bar). However I just couldn’t get into it because every time I started to get lost in the story, one of the performers would talk with a truly terrible English accent and drag me back out of it. I guess it is more noticeable to me as I am English, but they are all completely useless, worse than Stewie Griffin. If you can’t do an accent just don’t do it. I know American audiences expect everyone from Roman Emperors to Futuristic AI Supercomputers to sound British, and these characters are ‘nobility’ so are universally expected to sound like Downton Abbey. I try to convince myself that maybe it’s a production decision, that an Arelon accent happens to sound exactly like a lazy American attempt at an English upper class accent, but it’s too much of a stretch. Please please please just use your own accent, or hire actors who can do it properly (or just hire British actors if you must).

Aside from that a great listen.

I highly recommend this for all high fantasy fans. It has it all and the last part is satisfying.

Good read!

Loved it! I've read almost all of his older work, but I found this one just as good. Im hoping for more books about the world and the magic of Elantrians!

Fantastic story

Amazing story, great world building and magic, just wish the ending was a little stronger(it had a great ending just the last sentence I wanted to be stronger)

An epic fantasy romp!

My first Sanderson novel. Fun high fantasy epic. Great world building. Enjoyable narrative, more twists than I imagined, but some elements of the ending were telegraphed. Superb performances, music & sfx made for a great recording!

Good story, let down by performance.

While the story is nowhere near the same level as Brandon Sandersons later works. It was thoroughly enjoyable. However, the graphic audio adaptation seems to have been mixed poorly, its often hard to understand the narration due to the excessive volume of the ambient noise.
