About this listen

Aliens ripped a hole above Earth, arriving with a massive space station. I sorta figured we'd be enslaved to fight in their wars or exterminated for our resources. Nope. The hip-high Iglax were merchants with ugly squished faces and thick blue fur. While they weren't much to look at, they sure did have some wonderous technology.

Humanity bent over backwards to appease our new merchant overlords. The boorish aliens wanted cheap labor for precious metals, and honestly, I didn't blame anyone for their hunger to be among the stars.

For certain rare metals or special gems, they'd trade tech we could only fathom as magic. Me, I pawned a few things, made some money, then hunkered down to study to prove my worth.

The aliens tested humans on an individual basis for miner rentals. Do well on your pilot test, get a spaceship, sign up with a corp, and you can mine the belt. For a puddle-jumper pilot like me, yeah, I was so interested I became obsessed. When I finally tested, I performed above and beyond, being offered a contract for some better than a miner - Earth's First Starfighter.

Warning: Morally gray MC. There's no graphic sex or harem. No stats, straight Sci-Fi first person space-shooter progression.

Fantastic

Excellent. I do feel the book was a little long and might have been better broken down but i can also see how and why it was done the way it was. It was full of intrique and there were spots of sadness and comedy. Over all worth the time

Great start to a series

A great start to a series. The world building is great and there seems to be so much more of a plot still to develop in later books. The characters do however seem a bit vapid and shallow without too much processing. The characters all accept life changing events without a second thought but I get why authors can’t develop characters as much as the story. I found myself waiting in my van to finish this just to see how it all turned out. Seriously recommend this one

Epic

An amazing story. A guy who's just looking for a normal space job becomes a star fighter. very well written, full of action and great narration.

Sci Fy battles and action - what more could ever want.

I loved the film the last star fighter.. this initially reminds of the story, but takes it to the next level. The MC goes out into the galaxy, battles, sneaky spy stuff, then bigger battles.. all well written and easy to follow always with the underlying story developing.
Te narration is excellent and I found the 2 narrators so much better than just one and therefore one gender. Good range of accents which keep the story flowing.

Interesting story but very narrow in focus.

For the the entire story so far, even after the third book, evolves little politically or as a character development. Without spoling much, there is no understanding of the laws of physics from the author and fighters seem to fulfil roles they should not.

Intriguing

I love the approach this story takes to alien arrival in Sol. How the humans react is pretty much how I expect we'll react if we ever do meet aliens. Darius is a great MC, not an a-hole but not a push over either. Great story with absolutely breathtaking space battles which the narrators did an amazing job on.

A good ole boy meets ET

This book was better than I expected. I can actually see this happening. I know people that fit this character. I was in tears laughing at one point. The story captures the true possibility of what would happen if this was real.
The narrators accomplished a great feat of getting the accents right. They did a perfect job!
I hope this goes on to another book.
