About this listen

The second part of the series from Diana Gabaldon that explores the power of a love that transcends space and time. A magnificent epic that once again sweeps us back in time to the drama and passion of 18th-century Scotland....

For 20 years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland's majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones...about a love that transcends the boundaries of time...and about James Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his....

Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire's spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart...in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising...and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.

Fantastic

Really enjoyed this. The narrator is excellent. So many characters but she makes every one them distinctive

More of this fab story of Claire and Jamie across 200 years

The attention to detail about the 1743 - 1746 time is amazing. The outgoing story of the time travelling nurse and her highlands continues to enthrall.

Excellent 2nd part to the series.

Hard to put down. Credible even though incredible. Wonderfully drawn relationships. Must go now to start book 3.

Such a good story

Any additional comments?

This an excellent story, but I think the commitment is to the whole 8 books.

A very long listen

Others have reviewed the book with excellence and so I limit my comment to liking the historical research, and the cleverness of weaving the story through that history.
However, I did feel that the emotions, behaviours and also sex was overdone in places. Some of those observations and meanderings might have trimmed the book a little and focussed more on the drama.
Good book though. I will give it time till I try the next in the series as I really could not face such a marathon listen just now!

I'm hooked!

Im really enjoying this series of books. The story is well researched, richly orchestrated and full of twists and turns. Downside... I'm struggling at times with the relationship between Jamie and Claire and more than once I've wanted to slap them both.
The narrator is excellent. She really brings the characters to life. The American accent though is ear grating and her French pronunciation lacks softness. But these are small things. A fabulous performance!

Brilliant

Absolutely loved this book and will download the next one too. The American accent is appalling but the rest of the narration is incredible. Would definitely recommend this book.

Pronunciation

A good story with lots in it but again Davina Porter's pronunciation spoils enjoyment a little - "plaide" should be "plad" not "plade", Murtagh should be "Murturr" not "Murtor".
