Summary

When Professor Francombe and her team of archaeologists find the remains of three women on a remote Kintyre hillside - a site rumoured to have been the base of Viking warlord Somerled - their delight soon turns to horror when they realise the women tragically met their end little more than two decades ago. It soon becomes clear that these are the three missing victims of the ‘Midweek Murderer’, a serial killer who was at work in Glasgow in the early 1990s.

DCI Jim Daley now has the chance to put things right - to confront a nightmare from his past and solve a crime he failed to as a young detective. However, when Police Scotland’s Cold Case Unit arrive, they bring yet more ghosts to Kinloch.

A tale of death, betrayal, Viking treasure and revenge set in the thin places where past, present and future collide.

Another Great Book

it has its ups and downs but the patter is, on occasion, laugh out loud. Well worth a listen.

Best so far

I found the plot and character development the easiest to follow and would rate this as the most compelling Denzil Meyrick title I have read so far. I am looking forward to the next one.

A good series

I’m never sure whether I like this series or not, until I start listening to a new story! I think you’d have to be familiar with some of the back story to get the most out of it though. The story is complicated enough, mostly plausible, and the characters are really well drawn. There’s a lot of humorous chat between Daley and Scott, and Hamish is wonderful. Mr Monteath is a brilliant narrator. I do recommend this series.

Kept me guessing until the end!

I hadn't worked out the end at all, and was hoping for a big reveal, which the author of this very good listen provided with minutes to go. I will certainly be buying more books by this author.

The narration was very good. Just the right person to read it.

Liked this

As you can see from the stars I really enjoyed this book but so hate the going backwards and forwards in time. I get why Mr Meyrick structured the book in this way, just not keen, makes my brain hurt. The narration was amazing as always.

Another good yarn

Cracking narration and accents makes this another first class Meryck novel. Suspend disbelief and enjoy the jumps between the past and present, good characterisation and some real history/geography.
