About this listen

Graffiti is a dying art in this thriller from the bestselling DI Nick Dixon crime series.

A routine missing person enquiry takes a grisly turn when a young couple drag a box containing human remains out of a Somerset river. The victim was a surveillance expert investigating an exaggerated injury claim—a murder with an obvious motive, until a police officer is implicated and suspended.

Still brooding after his recent brush with police Professional Standards, Detective Chief Inspector Nick Dixon is on extended leave, helping his pregnant fiancée, Detective Sergeant Jane Winter, fight for her place on the major investigation team.

Convinced that the death of an art student is connected, Dixon returns to duty, and when graffiti depicting the murders starts to appear, the race is on to find the artist and the murderer. But, why the paintings? Could an infamous street artist be involved?

With colleagues questioning his every move, Dixon must stop a sadistic killer before another life is taken. Then a second art student is reported missing…

"I want justice, not revenge."

Book 13 in the DI Nick Dixon crime series, but for me, the first. At last, a new crime writer to enjoy and follow. Even though a (very) late arrival to these intriguing detective tales, there was no difficulty in getting to know the main characters and empathising with them as they follow the twisted turns and painted trails of a serial killer in the West country. Well written, unusual plot lines from this author and a good performance from narrator Simon Mattacks who helped bring it all to life.

Absorbing, unexpected and recommended

Yet another absorbing story

Enjoying this story, as I have all previous ones. However, I have one niggling criticism - the pronunciation of Curry Rivel. It's not Rivel as in drivel, but Rivel as in Bible! I lived in a neighbouring village in my childhood and travelled through Curry Rivel on my way to school very day, with many school friends who lived there...

Another excellent crime thriller

I really enjoy this series but hate finishing a book/audiobook and having to wait a year for the next one. A good book makes the reader feel involved in the story and personally know the characters. That is what happens when you read this book. The twist at the end was a teaser.

Good but…..

I’ve listened to this series since it’s kick off.
I have to admit I didn’t think Nick Dixon could be any more miserable-but here he is. I’ve no idea how Jane copes with such a miserable life with said Defective. And now a baby😱. Best of British with that. Can’t see that a baby and this miserable man’s ego could share the same air space.
It’s a shame because this character certainly didn’t start off being such a rude arrogant Pratt.
Run for the hills Jane………………. Take the baby to. And Monty.

Amazing

This is an amazing police procedural book, which I loved. I have loved all of Damien Boyd's books in this series.

In this story, Nick Dixon is thinking about becoming a lawyer again after being treated unfairly by the police, but then he is soon back in his favourite job - being a detective. He gets stuck into solving a case involving a murderer who creates street art where he leaves clues for the police to follow.

I loved seeing Nick and Jane, Monty the dog and Roger again. It is like visiting an old family when I read these books.

I highly recommend this book, and all books in this series - they are all fantastic!
