Summary
Reuben, aged 38, was living in a home for adults with learning disabilities and struggling to accept that he had Down's syndrome. Depressed and in a fog of anti-depressants, he hadn't spoken for over a year. Increasingly isolated, cut off from everyone and everything he loved, Reuben sent a text message: 'brother. do. you. love. me.'
When Manni received this desperate message from his youngest brother, he knew everything had to change. Together they began an extraordinary journey of repair, rediscovering the depths of their brotherhood, one gradual step at a time.
Their story of hope and resilience questions how we care for those closest to us and draws a moving portrait of brotherly love.

Brothers in deep affectionate love
I am so lucky to encircled in real life with the love that Reuben and Manni have for each other. This book brought this Gorilla of an ex rugby player to tears on more than one occasion. Manni's voice flows over you like a warm weighted blanket, full of emotion and love. I am filled with warmth that will become my fuel to make sure that whilst on my watch and beyond Reuben will feel loved and supported to achieve his life dreams - more importantly so Manni can continue to be the most incredible brother and concentrate on his love for Reubs - Whilst I and my team take up the battle for Reubs care and support. Thank you for wrapping me within your families love and care. I have your backs x

Such a beautifully told story. Heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure. Searingly honest, exceptionally tender and at times, quite funny!

Story of brotherhood
A fascinating journey into the ‘bruver’hood of Mani and Ruben - light and shade, joy and suffering, dark and light painted in a feast of word and felt tip pens.

Everybody and the world emotional
Stunning book. audio form, with Manni’s and Rube’s own voices really lift the emotion of the story.
As the father of a 17 year old boy with Downs this was a mixture of familiar and learning. Thinking about my son’s own future, through the eyes of his siblings was an eye opener.
The love, humour and humanity between these two is inspiring. I can’t recommend this audio book highly enough.

Very empathetic and educational Book
Chose this book after hearing discussed on radio four. Greatly improved my understanding of people living with Down’s and their family around them. Definitely one I will recommend to my Book Club and I've also suggested it to parent of a young adult with Down’s.

I miss Reuben and Manni
I really enjoyed this book. It gives a brutally honest depiction of care in the UK and the struggles of families and the inadequacy of, some not all, professionals. I loved the voices of both manni and Reuben’s colloquialism ‘bruva’. The book also shows that depression does not discriminate on Reuben’s down days I really felt for him.
