Summary

The Sunday Times top 10 bestseller.

Laugh along with Michael McIntyre as he lifts the curtain on his life in his revealing autobiography. This audio edition is hilariously read by Michael himself.

Michael’s first book ended with his big break at the 2006 Royal Variety Performance. Waking up the next morning in the tiny rented flat he shared with his wife Kitty and their one-year-old son, he was beyond excited about the new glamorous world of show business. Unfortunately, he was also clueless . . .

In A Funny Life, Michael honestly and hilariously shares the highs and the lows of his rise to the top and desperate attempts to stay there. It’s all here, from his disastrous panel show appearances to his hit TV shows, from mistakenly thinking he’d be a good chat show host and talent judge, to finding fame and fortune beyond his wildest dreams and becoming the biggest-selling comedian in the world. Along the way he opens his man drawer, narrowly avoids disaster when his trousers fall down in front of three policemen and learns the hard way why he should always listen to his wife.

Michael has had a silly life, a stressful life, sometimes a moving and touching life, but always A Funny Life.

Outrageously funny

What a talented man. This book made me laugh out loud so often but it had moments of sadness and the ending line was just wonderful. Such a brilliant insight to the comedy world and how hard it is in reality. He’s an inspiration. I’ve seen Michael in live shows going back years and this book has given a very humorous and humble account of life on the circuit, managing family life and his life changing professional relationship with his agent. Michael makes it look so easy but he has worked very hard to get where he is. Wonderful. More!!

Hilarious, poignant and a wonderful story of success, marriage and friendship

Michael reads the book so beautifully and it’s like he’s sitting with you, especially when he has some side comments. I laughed so much and felt his poignant loss towards the end. A brilliant autobiography. I’ve just books to see him live, something I’ve wanted to do for years!

A decent memoir

I almost cut this loose after the first chapter or so as Michael's slow, drawling narration was so slow. The storyline seemed forced and he didn't sound especially interested in his own writing or jokes. Glad I stuck with it as it picked up and became a decent book. Clearly the overall theme was his honest account of his relationship with Addison; his agent and it is as funny as it is brilliant writing. A moving and in-depth account of their time together that draws you in. No spoilers here though. All I'll say is this is the only book i've listened to when I had to turn up the speed to make it sound better to listen to. I know?. Michaels transparent honesty about his failures and mistakes is as refreshing as it is appreciated. I think it's rare when celeb's open up and admit their just as human as us and yet with sincerity as Michael does here. Loved his first memoir, this not as much but mainly for the narration, but definately worth a listen. Michael is a national treasure for the Brits and I look forward to his next installament.

Absolutely Fabulously engrossing. 5yesses

This book reading truly grabbed me, Michael’s dedication to his trade together with his
amazement at his own success is humbling.

His respect and love for his family and especially Addison is truly touching.

I learned a great deal from this book and have recommended it to many. It’s is emotional, inspiring and funny at different times.

No doubt it’s No1 feature is that it is so brilliantly read by its author Michael. Thank you

A flouncing comic I once found to be irritating

An enjoyable listen containing both funny and moving content. Michael's narration is an easy listen.
