Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of How to Grow Old by John Bishop.

Whether he likes it or not, John is getting older. His hair is greying, it’s getting that much harder to stay fit, and the potential to become something of an embarrassment is ever increasing.

But hope is not lost.

How to Grow Old is John’s offering to the world. With sage advice on how to avoid the common pitfalls of age, intimate confessions and spit-your-dentures-out hilarious commentary on his own advancing years, this is his observational comic writing at its very best. If you were concerned about how not to be boring or how to get rid of your should-be-old-enough-to-manage kids, this the book has the answers.

A greatbook for my age group

I bought this book because I like John Bishop's humour. There is not only humour, but some pretty useful advice in there too. A must for the 50+ age group. Brilliantly narrated by the author.

I absolutely loved this book

I think John is lovely man, his out look on life & how he can make it humerus is very special. I watched the connection he had with the rehabilitation of the 2 whales & the companion he & all the crew had, what you see with John is a very truthful & genuine person with no airs & graces, a truly lovely human being. This book was so funny in parts but sad in others I was surprised to hear that John was depressed but through out the years it seems a lot of comedians seem to suffer (Tommy Copper & Robin Williams are just 2).
A very enjoyable book & I would highly recommend listening to it.

Easy read, personal and funny in places

This is a straightforward “tell it like it is” biography, relevant in many ways to the fears and emotions of growing older in our environment. Will make you see the funny side of your own life. Enjoyed it. Thank you.

Status Quo

John Bishop is older than me and I picked this book because I thought it might give me some learnings about how to approach the next few years. It does and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
John Bishop has a degree of honesty and lack of pretence that is refreshing in the modern comedian and his quietly opening up to getting older and feeling shit sometimes is a worthy listen.

Heartwarming

I cried and laughed listening to this. Possibly biased as someone who a) likes John Bishop almost as much as my mum does b) works as an NHS nurse and he speaks so kindly of the NHS c) I’m a 45 year old woman and can relate to the content of the book. His love for his family too is so clear and so cool !

How to grow old

Enjoyed the book.
Some funny stories along the way that anyone getting old or feel they’re getting old can relate to.
A book is always better when narrated by the writer
