I’m a divorced mom of two grown sons. I believe that everyone has worth and purpose in this life. I also believe that everyone is deserving of love. These two beliefs are the foundation of my parenting style. It sounds simplistic, but it has definitely not been an easy road. There were many times when I doubted my choices, yet my heart would not allow me to parent any other way. Looking back, I’m so glad I stayed the course, trusting my instincts and doing what I knew was right in spite of life’s challenges. My journey parenting two Black sons has included parenting through divorce, going back to work, childcare issues, my personal physical and mental health issues, having a child diagnosed on the autism spectrum, another child with a chronic health condition, dating, financial challenges, legal obstacles, and of course the fears of raising a Black son in today’s social climate. A mother’s job can feel overwhelming and isolating, but the rewards are great. I’m also an audiobook narrator; voice actor; musician; sports fan – especially tennis, football, and basketball; Reiki Master; and avid reader. I’m passionate about social issues affecting our sons, and I believe we have to do everything within our power to set them up for success.
