Pygmalion is a play by George Bernard Shaw, named after the Greek mythological figure. In ancient Greek mythology, Pygmalion fell in love with one of his sculptures, which then came to life. The general idea of that myth was a popular subject for Victorian era British playwrights. Shaw's play has been adapted numerous times, most notably as the 1938 film Pygmalion, the 1956 musical My Fair Lady and its 1964 film version.

Julius Caesar is a history play and tragedy by William Shakespeare first performed in 1599. In the play, Brutus joins a conspiracy led by Cassius to assassinate Julius Caesar, to prevent him from becoming a tyrant. Caesar's right-hand man Antony stirs up hostility against the conspirators and Rome becomes embroiled in a dramatic civil war.

The Life of the Buddha and Its Lessons (published in 1912) was written by H. S. Olcott, who is considered the “first American Buddhist.” The book explores what Olcott found on his journey to India and Sri Lanka. His mission was to discover original Buddhist texts that were uncorrupted by Western interpretations so that he could produce more accurate translations and propagate the ideas of Buddhism.
