From the age of steam and the heirs of Dr. Frankenstein to the asteroid belt to the halls of Miskatonic University, the writers at Book View Café have concocted a beakerful of quaint, dangerous, sexy, clueless, genius, insane scientists, their assistants (sometimes equally if not even more deranged, not to mention bizarre), friends, test subjects, and adversaries.

Fight scenes and moral dilemmas: that's what listeners will find in this collection. These seven stories, first published in magazines and anthologies between 1999 and 2011, include several military adventures, some love stories, a little space opera, and some speculation about the near future.

"All the world’s a postapocalyptic stage." A retelling of As You Like It set in a balkanized Texas after climate change and bad economic policies have brought about social collapse.

"Break all rules, including these." So advises one of the stories in this audiobook collection. These stories jump - conscientiously - from a homage to Alexandre Dumas to an action-packed adventure set in the near future. There’s also an epic fantasy or space opera - take your pick - told in aphorisms, a contemplation on death, and a tale of what happens when walls begin to divide a place.

Nancy Jane Moore wrote her first flash fiction many years ago when everyone in her writing group decided to enter a contest for one-page stories. None of them won, but she got hooked and has been writing short-shorts ever since. Her first project for Book View Café was posting a free flash fiction every week for a year. Some were reprints, others older stories that needed one more revision, but quite a few were written in the week they went up. This 52-story collection includes most of those stories and a few new ones as well.
