About this listen
Shortlisted for Holyer An Gof Award.
Zed and her family move unwillingly from London to Cornwall in an attempt to support her mother’s mental health. Gradually, the family fall apart, and it is only when Zed realizes that the local cormorants are playing a part in the disasters that consume them in revenge for an ancient wrong, that she and her sister, Amy, start working together to find a solution and call a truce.

Beautifully written and narrated
It felt as though it was autobiographical, it rang so true! Although promoted as a "teen read", I am 75.

Atmospheric, gripping and satisfying
This book is full of atmospheric descriptions and has a gripping plot line. However there something about it brings contentment which sounds contrary but somehow isn’t. Sophie’s narration and Clare’s writing bring the scenes to life in a most satisfying way. It’s the first book I have listened to on audible and I found myself prioritising jobs which meant I could keep listening. I throughly recommend it.
