Summary

When Ellie Roberts inherits a cottage on a remote Scilly Isle, she's shocked. She's never heard of the previous owner, Patience Ellis, so why did she leave Ellie her legacy?

Overwhelmed with unanswered questions, Ellie travels to the isolated island. The house feels strangely familiar, and she has a memory of her beloved mother in the window seat overlooking the sea...

The mother she lost when she was only a child. Determined to find out more, Ellie meets enigmatic local Branok Shore. When Branok prises open Patience's dresser, filled with letters from the Second World War, Ellie discovers something that will change her own life forever.

The letters tell the story of a brutal storm in the depths of war, and of an injured soldier who begged Patience for help, and asked her to make an impossible choice...

Good listen.

I listened to this book in one day. It was an easy listen, a pleasant listen and a good story. Nothing dark or disturbing. Just a well written, well narrated book.

Beautifully written

I loved the story, found the accents a bit 'too' regional (I can say that coming from a Regional area) which is a shame, it shouldn't but did distract from the intelligence of the characters.

Splendid story!

A love story, a story about a family, a story of courage and trusting oneself and so much more. This book spans a few decades, brings together about a dozen people and elicits all the emotions 💜

Lovely story, but…….

The book could have been fully narrated by Penelope Freeman. She is a first class narrator. Sadly the younger girl really didn’t bring her chapters to life. So disappointed.

Disappointing

I chose this as I like Penelope Freeman as a narrator. The story started well then got too confusing with names and the constant going back and forth in the time line. I was going to give up but I battled to the end with a feeling of was the book worth it. Sorry to say No!
