About this listen
Tessa O’Connell has everything she could possibly want. She’s engaged, she has her dream job working at a bookstore, and she’s going to be the maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding next month.
Montgomery “Monty” Ford has everything she could possibly want. She’s getting married in June, she worked hard to achieve her dream job as a librarian, and she’s helping her best friend plan her wedding for next year.
Unfortunately, plans go seriously awry when Monty’s fiancé ends up being a cheating loser and Tessa’s engagement falls apart. The plans they made so carefully are in complete shambles, and they’re both at a loss for how to move forward.
Tessa and Monty turn to one another to try and pick up the pieces, and what starts as an attempt to use each other for dating practice turns into something they never saw coming - that will change everything they know about themselves and each other.
What happens when it turns out the one you really want has been standing in front of you the whole time?

A good story
I found the narration of this very difficult. The narrator has a very distinctive voice which I found a little harder to listen to than with other audiobooks. I found that the two lead voices were very difficult to distinguish, so I had to skip back to work out who was talking quite often. This hasn't been a problem with other audiobooks told from different perspectives. I also feel like there were occasionally parts with a total change of topic or location from once sentence to the next, which I assume was a new paragraph, where I feel like a small pause would have been helpful. It definitely felt like part of the narration and not the writing.
Having said all that, I did persist with the story because I've been really enjoying this author's writing. She has a lovely way of using metaphors and similes - I can remember a wonderful one involving bees that I particularly liked. I also enjoy the way she uses the alternating perspectives to help you understand how both leads feel, and it's a lovely feeling picking up on little things as their feelings for each other grow. It did feel like the story was quite slow to get started, since it was about 5 hours in when both engagements were over. But I did enjoy the characters and it was lovely how supportive the people around Monty and Tessa were. So I'm glad that I saw it through to the end, and I did get used to the narrator's voice with time. I'm so grateful that books like this with happy endings are out there!

Ehhh
It's not bad?!?! The story is sweet. It's a lot of build up and then the rest seems kind of rushed. However the narration is one of the strangest things I've heard, it's really off putting and I thought about quitting the story a few times. I can't work out if that is her real voice, she was sick while recording or for some bizarre reason she chose to put on that strange sound but either way it's not good! It's definitely not going to be a book I go back and listen again but mehhh it's fine.
