Summary

When Alice Love surfaces from a beautiful dream to find she's been injured in a gym, she knows that something is very wrong – she hates exercise. Alice's first concern is her baby – she's pregnant with her first child, and she's desperate to see her husband, Nick, whom she knows will be worried about her. But Alice isn't pregnant. And Nick isn't worried. Alice is the mother of three children and her hostile husband is in the process of divorcing her. Alice has lost ten years of her life.

In the days that follow, small bubbles of the past rise to the surface, and Alice is forced to confront uncomfortable truths. It turns out forgetting might be the most memorable thing that's ever happened to her.

How life changes our personality

What made the experience of listening to What Alice Forgot the most enjoyable?

How she came to realise how much she had changed over the last 10 years. How it changed how she veiwed others, how other people viewed her, and her outlook on life. It really made me think how I might have changed over the last 10 years!! I sort of guessed how the story might end but it was still nice to hear the happy ending - and for her sister too.

What other book might you compare What Alice Forgot to, and why?

Possibly, 'Before I go to Sleep' only because the main character in that had also lost her memory, but the story lines were quite different.

What three words best describe Caroline Lee’s performance?

annoying, high pitched, irritating. (I see that she narrates most of Lianne Moriartys books and for that reason I could not listen to another!!)

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

O would some power the gift to give us to see ourselves as others see us.(Robbie Burns)

Any additional comments?

Really good book and worth reading, but only listen to it if you can endure the narrators irritating voice!!

It's an old idea but works well

Character suffers bang on head and forgets what time they live in. This is an old idea but What Alice Forgot is a very good example. Loved the interaction between Alice and her sister in particularly. The story will probably make any mother who listens think hard between their pre baby and post child selves, it certainly did for me. If only we could go back and tell our childless selves what parenthood really means!!!

Lovely read, ending a bit lame

Good story, likeable characters, easy pace, a little too slow at times, kept you wanting to know what had happened in the missing years.

Liane Moriarty, you are awesome!

I'm a massive fan, this is my favourite so far. She depicts the characters so well that, not only do you empathize, sympathize + fall in love with them...you actually miss them when they've gone. The narrator played a huge part in bringing the story alive, making the characters real & using exactly the right intonation to fit each situation & emotion perfectly, the perfect narrator for a Moriarty book.

My last comment is about the children. Their characters are so true to life...she has the ability of showing their vulnerability, innocence, cute, loveable natures whilst not ignoring their rebellious, sulky, bratiness. I love the 3 kids in this book...they were smart and very funny.

This book made me smile, laugh, cry and think a lot about the complexities of life and about the effect that people, situations and life experiences, has on our behaviour.

Fantastic Ms Moriarty.

Was surprised to enjoy this so much! Great listen

Not my usual pick, was worried it would be chick lit. A surprisingly good listen.

I love this author

If you could sum up What Alice Forgot in three words, what would they be?

Amusing, sad and heartwarming

Who was your favorite character and why?

Alice Love - after losing the memory of the last ten years of her life, Alice has the chance to rebuild herself she had always envisaged. She learns to see her life as her younger self when she feels she was a better person, and makes the most if it

Which character – as performed by Caroline Lee – was your favourite?

Frannie - she was the neighbour of Alice's parents, Alice and her sister Elizabeth. She provided the stability and love the family needed following a tragedy. Frannie becomes a grandmother to the girls and a mother to their devastated mum. She gradually brings them back together and remains a strong, loving influence on them all and they, in their turn, fulfill Feannue's life

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have if sleep didn't keep calling me. As with all Liane Moriarty's books, it is brilliant and you always want to know what is going to happen next. Caroline Lee is the absolutely perfect narrator, and gives all the characters their individual personalities. A narrator can make or break an audible book, and she certainly helps to make this such a success.

Any additional comments?

Every Liane Moriarty book I listen leaves me looking forward to the next.
