Summary
The four rules of freelance villainy are as follows:
- Always wear a mask
- Never hurt civilians
- Never kill the heroes you’re paid to fight.
- And the bad guy always loses.
As a villain for hire, I followed those rules, facing down heroes in scripted fights to make them look good for the press and brand deals. Sure, losing every time was a pain, but the money was good. Well, decent. And it kept real heroes off my back. Well, usually.
But then I got called in to train a new villainess in the fine art of menace, and suddenly I'm dealing with rogue heroes, horny scientists, yandere psychics, and in the crosshairs of one of the biggest bad guys the world has ever known. It's a good thing I'm a villain, because it's time to start breaking some rules....

Amazing
An amazing start to a promising series by Jay Aury. Victor is a fantastic villain to get to know and follow. Interesting character and storyline with great narration by Edward Black and Ellory Lane. Can not wait for the next instalment.

One of the best this year!
At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review
Genre: Super villain harem adventure and slice of life
Power dynamics in harem: The girls all crush on the MC who is a well known villain
Explicit/adult material: Explicit.
Summary:
The MC is one of the best at making the heroes looks good. He knows his job and looks evil so they can look good. That is how he pays the bills.
He never takes on sidekicks, but one job simply pays too well not to. So here is training and preparing this young beautiful ice-giftet girl for her first step into supervillainy.
Narrators
Voice diversity: Very well done. Characters are easily recognisable with accents and speech patterns.
Pacing and intonation: Well done. The telling matched the intensity and meshed well with the writing.
Sex scenes: Very well done.
Overall: 4.5 / 5 stars.
The book’s strengths.
- The humour. The book plays with sterotypes and haves fun in the setup of heroes and villains and their roles in a society where superpowers are a thing.
- The girls feel distinct both in their mannerism, the voice given and what they bring to the table.
- It leverages pre-book established friendships and relationships to make the harem-buildup seem natural.
- The narration.
The book’s weaknesses.
- The book is a bit shorter than I would have prefered for an audiobook, but it is excellent and doesn't feel rushed.
Overall: 5/5 stars
One of my best harem books this year! I am excited to see where this goes!

Good Debut from Jay Aury
Copy of my Amazon Review:
I was a little apprehensive going into this book based on the author's previous work but really enjoyed the story.
The character's were interesting as well as the idea as working as a villain who would be booked to job to upcoming hero's who are sponsored by corps's. Particularly enjoyed the running gag of everyone explaining there backstory as to how they developed there powers added a good bit of comedy to the book.
My only minor complaints would be that it was a little short and would have liked to seen more of the MC's day to day life as he tried to navigate his life as a villain who is on the grind and just trying to get by, as well as fleshing out the world a little more, but overall it was a fun story and to hope to see a second instalment.

Unapologetically Fun
It was awesome, for once a clever Villain MC who uses their powers in both fun and useful ways The home made rail gun was absolutely one of the best uses of a magnetic ability. Plus sexy sidekicks. All in all one of the most enjoyable books I've listened to this year!

absolutely brilliant
a wonderfully cynical take on heroes and villains, with a world where villains hire themselves out for staged battles to help with heroes pr. it's a fantastic take, which also gives us the usual "I just want to have a predictable life" villain protagonist. cynical, self serving, brash but NOT stupid.
the main character is great, the world well put together and not lost in exposition, explaining the whys and how's. the humour is great, with all the heroes having their moment to explain their powers, done in a great tongue in cheek manner.
the girls are brilliant and the narrators both do a great job bringing everyone to life. our MC is a LITTLE slow in the uptake, but gets the memo eventually and when he does he leans into it, rather than spending ages moralising (he IS a villain!)
it's a fun look into a slice of life, with low stakes and a good intro to the world. it sets up great potential for follow ups and can't wait to see more!
