About this listen

Casting necromancy without ever learning how to isn't supposed to be possible.

A starving orphan girl named Vita is somehow managing it anyway, and she's not sure if this is going to be the solution to her life's problems or a horrifying, spiraling mess of problems she can hardly conceive.

Set in a massive world of floating islands with a dangerous entity known as the Mistwatcher that lurks beneath them, Vigor Mortis pairs adorable charm with haunting fantasy.

Really good

I really liked this especially at the start. I didn't like the turn and continual emphasis on humanising various monsters though. It got a bit samey. The main character's lack of social skills were a bit frustrating too. However, overall the plot and narration were good.

Hilarious and a great story

Really enjoyed the book and had me laughing out loud like a weirdo. Just want to know if/when the next book is getting a audiobook cover. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Loved everything except the editing

Story is fun. Performance was lovely as well. Slightly long pauses between sentences and paragraphs sometimes, however, broke the flow a bit. Frequently got a bit annoyed by that. Looking forward to next volume.

odd pauses but great story

I didn't expect such an honest and interesting story from this book, but it really surprised me. a fascinating world, great characters, and gripping story. the recording has some odd places where pauses are left in, and I did feel them, but you can ignore them easily.

cute and terrifying

in short I loved it the way the author handled the main character and her relations with her abilities and really made the main character come to life and and equal care is put into all the characters you encounter in the book the story could have easily had the main character just hide and slowly growing power with her ability but the author put a number of obstacles and trials in her way that will force her to to face threats she's unprepared for despite the fact that in the long term she could become very powerful.

Looking forward to volume 2.

I was blown away by this, went in not knowing what to inspect and was more then pleasantly surprised. one of my favourite discoveries on audible. The occasional unexpected pause could be noticed a few times but not nearly enough to impact my review.

Wholesome, Endearing, but also Horror

Frankly, I am amazed at how good this story was.

It is the oddest mix of a heartfelt, underdog, coming of age story, of a cute psychopath, with eldritch elements.

In addition, we get to explore a rich and amazingly bizarre world alongside a set of well developed characters.

The only slights I have against this audiobook is that the narrator does not make it easy to distinguish between the 'inner' dialogue (of which there is a lot) and 'spoken' dialogue. Also, the editing sometimes allows too much time between words leaving you to think a sentences is over when it is not, and breaking the story telling flow. The thick U.S. accent may also annoy some listeners.

All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book for fantasy fans.
