Understanding teens

As I sometimes interact with kids at work, I’ve found myself feeling uncertain about how best to support them, especially as they navigate the complexities of adolescence. This book provided me with both practical advice and emotional reassurance, making me feel more confident in my role as a caretaker. What I liked most was how it emphasized understanding teens' perspective - reminding me that, neurodivergent or not, teenagers all experience similar struggles with independence, identity, and social challenges.

High Functioning Teen

I struggled a lot when I was a teen with bullying, and I did not know how to solve bullying problems. I had to report it to a teacher or school principal for unsafe students. The audiobook provides a guide to solving bullying, as well as anxiety and depression. Although I never experienced anxiety or depression, I had friends who had those issues. I agree with the author that knowledge is power, and the more we read, the more skills we have to overcome challenges that might arise in our school journey. I can build a relationship with my teen with the audiobook guide, and It's beneficial.

A Great Book !

As a parent of a high-functioning teen, I've always wondered why things sometimes felt a bit different for them. This book really helped me understand what was going on. It talked about neurodiversity, which is basically saying everyone's brain is a little bit different. If you're a parent of a high-functioning teen or tween, I highly recommend this audiobook. It's like having a friend who understands and can offer helpful advice.

This audiobook offers a lot of relatable and practical advice for parents navigating the ups and downs of raising neurodiverse teens. It addresses the unique challenges that come with guiding a high-functioning autistic teenager through the tricky transition to adulthood in what can be a difficult and confusing yet also exciting time. The sections on dealing with bullying, improving social skills, and advocating in school were great reminders and offered new information I hadn't heard as well. Illustrates important adaptations for parents

Raising any teenager comes with it's difficulties, and even people like me who do not have their own children hear about those challenges. However, we less often hear about the specific challenges of raising a teenager with autism. This book does a great job of illusrating the specific differences and needs that this situation comes with and gives real advice on how to navigate them as a parent. I appreciate the important emphasis on reminding parents that above anything else, your teen with autism is a teenager, and it's important to remember what that part of your life is like, regardless of how your brain works. The narrator's calm and comforting tone throughout the book is a nice bonus as well.

SO USEFUL!!

As a parent of an autistic teenager, this book felt like a lifeline. My son struggled with anxiety and often felt out of place at school, making his teen years particularly challenging. I remember the frustration and isolation I felt, not knowing how best to support him. This book's step-by-step advice on handling bullying and fostering independence was eye-opening. It gave me practical strategies to help Jake transition to adulthood more smoothly.
One particular chapter on combating anxiety provided tips that we started implementing right away, and we’ve already seen a noticeable improvement in his confidence and social interactions. If you’re in a similar situation, this book offers not just guidance, but hope and practical solutions from someone who truly understands.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
