Summary

When Ellie Kent moves to an English village with her new husband Graham, she fears the villagers will always see her at that young American who snared their attractive vicar during his sabbatical in California. But this challenge is nothing compared to what happens when she stumbles across a body in the churchyard.

The villagers insist they don't know the murdered man, so suspicion mounts that the killer must be the incomer - the vicar's new wife. As evidence piles up against her, Ellie tries to stay one step ahead of the police to unravel a decades-old literary mystery and love story. Will others die before she can solve it? And what will be left of her new life and marriage, even if she succeeds?

Very enjoyable listen

We enjoyed listening to this very much - a whodunnit set in an English Cotswolds village, with quite a meaty feel.

Accent is confusing

Not surprisingly Saskia’s American accent is great - as she lives in NYC, however - I was surprised to find Oxfordshire is now overrun with Antipodeans …. I’m not sure how normal it is for the local accent to be from NZ! I lived in the Oxford area for over 20 years and never noticed!

Not completely convinced

Where this is going. Liked the storyline liked the heroine and like the narrator. Still seem to be not completely used to full potential. Like all involved held something back. But it has loads of points for unusual developments and unexplored options for more emphasis on the unique situation created in a seemingly so typical setting. I’m sure this will be getting even better in the next one just love the link to literature and village and clerical background and all with a twist.

So ridiculous

An American writing about England and the English badly.
Wallpaper for the ears when working at something useful.

A Heavenly Tale

A realistic view of English Country life with a not unrealistic twist in the tail

Ever been to England ?🤣

I’m not sure if the author has ever been to England, maybe she’s just seen many American films about English villages and attempted to stick all the clichés in a book.
If you can get past the many inaccuracies, it’s an ok story.
