Summary

In this delectable new cozy mystery series, social media maven Maddy Montgomery’s perfectly ’grammable life has come undone, and she’s #StartingOver in a tiny town with one giant problem—a killer on the loose …

When Maddy Montgomery’s groom is a no-show to their livestream wedding, it’s a disaster that no amount of filtering can fix. But a surprise inheritance offers a chance to regroup and rebrand—as long as Maddy is willing to live in her late, great-aunt Octavia’s house in New Bison, Michigan, for a year, running her bakery and caring for a 250-pound English mastiff named Baby.

Maddy doesn’t bake, and her Louboutins aren’t made for walking giant dogs around Lake Michigan, but the locals are friendly and the scenery is beautiful. With help from her aunt’s loyal friends, aka the Baker Street Irregulars, Maddy feels ready to tackle any challenge, including Octavia’s award-winning cake recipes. That is, until New Bison’s mayor is fatally stabbed, and Maddy’s fingerprints are found on the knife …

Something strange is going on in New Bison. It seems Aunt Octavia had her suspicions, too. But Maddy’s going to need a whole lot more than a trending hashtag to save her reputation—and her life.

First cosy mystery I really enjoyed

This murder mystery was charming, fun and exciting. A very intelligent, but spoiled and shallow military daughter is left at the altar and soon after receives an inheritance that will keep her in a small town up north in America. She gets the house, bakery and a dog. It was lovely to see her change, make meaningful relationships, work hard to keep her great aunt legacy and grown into an independent and self-assured woman. The mystery kept me guessing. I loved the dog and Madison, she was adorably incompetent in the begging but a completely different person at the end.
The narration was amazing, great interpretation, and I could follow the story easily.

A recipe for murder

I enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure I was going to like the main character, especially when she couldn't seem to make a decision or do anything with out consulting or sharing it with social media, the hashtags did get annoying but the more the story went on and she made friends the more I liked her. She grew into a nice character. I liked her friends and especially Baby the English mastiff. It turned into a fun mystery that I actually enjoyed. There was plenty going on with the mystery, running the bakery and making friends. The mystery was well worked into the story and kept you guessing who could be involved, all through there was some big clues along the way. Off to start the next book in the series.
Maddy needs a fresh start from the public humiliation of her life, so when she discovers her great aunt has made her the sole beneficiary to her inheritance, she jumps on a plane. On arrival she finds out she has inherited her house, her bakery and her dog, a 250-pound English mastiff, on the condition that she lives in the small town of Bison for a year. Not wanting to prove to everybody that she is a spoiled rich girl who's only skill is mastering social media she decides to stick it out. How hard could it be to run a bakery when you can't cook? A lot harder than she thinks especially when the town's mayor is found dead in her bakery and her finger prints are the only ones on the murder weapon. It seems like her great aunt is still looking out for her when her aunts friends rally around to help find the real killer and to keep the bakery running. Can Maddy prove she is more than just her latest hashtag?
I wasn't sure about the narrator to begin with as she seemed to have a real accent but it soon grew on me and I enjoyed the variety of her voice.
