About this listen

A woman wakes up to discover her new husband is missing and sets out on a wild race of power, politics and revenge in this international thriller from New York Times bestselling author Chris Pavone.

You think you know a person....

Ariel Price wakes up in Lisbon, alone. Her husband is gone—no warning, no note, not answering his phone. Something is wrong.

She starts with hotel security, then the police, then the American embassy, at each confronting questions she can't fully answer: What exactly is John doing in Lisbon? Why would he drag her along on his business trip? Who would want to harm him? And why does Ariel know so little about her new, much younger, husband?

The clock is ticking. Ariel is increasingly frustrated and desperate, running out of time, and the one person in the world who can help is the one person she least wants to ask....

Critic reviews

"I defy anyone to read the first twenty pages of this breakneck novel, then try to put it down for five minutes. This is smart suspense at its very best." (John Grisham)

"Two Nights in Lisbon is his best yet. This one is not to be missed." (Karin Slaughter)

Tedious

Overall the story line was interesting but the constant detailed ‘thoughts’ of the key character especially in the first two thirds is irritating. Might have been easier to follow in book form but the constant jumping between characters, services, and time frame made it hard to follow.

Engaging story, a little long.

Very well narrated. First time
with this author. Felt compelled to stay listening despite the long drags/loss of pace throughout. It really could do with being more compact to keep the pages turning, perhaps the author didn’t want to finish it? A personal comment, I found it hard to connect or truly get under the skin of the characters.
The excessive over-labouring of certain points may have contributed to this, where it started to feel like a lecture.
Overall, a good yarn, will no doubt be developed into a film (or maybe that’s too close to home!)

Revenge is best served cold!

Like other reviewers’ comments, I found the story a little overlong and complicated but with so many smart twists and turns, the story kept me wanting to keep going. It was well written and well narrated. I thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent narration.

Sophisticated language and depth of character of the protagonist. I don’t agree that it was overlong or too complicated. It was excellently constructed.
