Summary

Toby Grant spends his days working for a digital marketing agency and his nights stressing about how unfair life is for his generation. With a 30th birthday only months away and his finances approaching meltdown, it’s fair to say Toby isn’t a happy millennial. His parents’ generation had it so much easier...or did they?

After a series of rather unfortunate events, Toby is offered an opportunity to discover exactly what life was like for his parents’ generation, courtesy of a journey back in time to 1969.

However, life in pre-decimal Britain isn’t quite as simple as Toby envisaged. And neither, as it transpires, is time travel.

Another gem of a time travelling escapade.

After reading the 86 fix novels I was chuffed to find this one. Couldn't put it down. As a lad born in 73 and grew up in the 80s, so much rings true with these books. The descriptions make your hair stand in end and your heart race with nostalgia. I will say this about these books...when you have finished you feel a certain form of pining for the characters. It's actually as if you know them and have been part if their lives. The Author has a way of sowing the endearment seed through his character buildups. This book did make me feel like there was the chance of a sequel (fingers crossed). The ending was quite emotional which left me not wanting that to be the end. Keith please please please continue with your time travelling theme. Fantastic performance from the narrator yet again. The 86 Fix books are probably some of the best books I've read....and I've literally read thousands. You are a massive breath of fresh air! (ps the C64 is a better time machine)

Great story, especially for British readers for nostalgia of the era looking forward to his next. Narrative was good was surprised by other reviews slating him

Absolutely loved it from start to finish. Couldn't put it down near the end. Made me laugh and cry.

I liked the obvious research that went into it. I am from that era and his observation was good. A couple of minor details grated ie the American pronunciation of lever and I don't remember anyone in the UK calling anyone Honey back then. However, a very good read. I recommend it.

Edited review

Don't know if this is a good book or not. I have enjoyed others from the same author. The pauses in narration make it difficult to listen to and have now given up.

I decided to try and listen again and managed to put the pauses to one side. So glad I did as the story is excellent. It's a bit of a shame as the narration was actually good, if you can get passed the pauses. The voices given to the character are spot on.

Another great listen

If you enjoyed the 86 fix and beyond Broad Hall, then I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy this. It had a few great surprises thrown in for good measure. Told in the authors usual style, with plenty of drama and a good helping of the usual witty humour as well. Highly recommended.

What's with the long pauses?

it's a great book let down by the awful narration.
It would be so much better with good narration. The long pauses at random intervals are so annoying

Loved every moment

I have found another favourite author!

As a child of the 60's, this book particularly appealed to me as it evoked memories of a time, long ago, that I remember well. However, I would say that you do not need to have been around in 1969 to appreciate this wonderful book. It's a quite brilliant story - and the author's ability to make the characters relatable is just superb. I don't want to introduce spoilers, but I was in tears towards the end. It's an art to make the reader care so much about the individuals he creates.

If you are tempted to buy this book, be warned that you probably won't be able to stop listening until the end.

I wasn't convinced by the narrator at first. His delivery is slow at times. Long pauses in some of the passages, especially when there is dialogue. However, after a while I got used to it and it works.

Keep tuned in

Stumbled on this book in the 2-4-1 sale, after listening to the 5 minute sample, I thought it was worth a punt..

This book delivered more than just a good punt, it was a fun filled fabulous listen.

The world of time travel, different eras and the customs associated with each, coupled with a dose of dark humour made for a unbeatable listen.

Narration was spot on by Mike Paul

I will certainly seeking out more by this author, and hope it was not just a one hit wonder
