About this listen

Lydia Montgomery is a Tramp.

After fleeing a tragic past, Lydia’s determined never to go back to the life she left behind at any price. She lands in Grand Haven, California - a city booming with billion-dollar corporations and tech money - and everything changes.

Armed with the only lesson she learned from her mother, Lydia builds a life of routine, solitude, and success.

Nothing is out of reach when you’re beautiful.

Nearly a decade after her arrival, Lydia's the highest paid escort in the city, and only the most influential people in Grand Haven can get near her. She's a goddess among her clients and out of reach to everyone else. Lydia's created the perfect illusion, and no one will take it from her again.

Until a misunderstanding lands her in the office of the city’s most eligible bachelor.

Talent Ridge is Grand Haven royalty. Despite running in the same circles as Lydia’s clients, he’s scandal-free and on his way to being the most powerful man in the area.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but a relationship has the potential to destroy everything they’ve worked for. Especially when Lydia is running from her past, and Talent is running toward a future she can never be a part of.

Beauty and money can’t save them this time.

Are Lydia and Talent willing to give it all up for each other, or will their differences cost too much?

Amazing!

My thanks to the author and to Boom for the free audio version of this incredible book – this is my honest review.
I absolutely loved this book! I don’t think I can rave about the world building and love affair enough – it left me breathless! I don’t think I have ever read/listened to a love story written so raw and honest to the point where I actually felt and lived the attraction! Target Ridge and Lydia Montgomery are incredible characters and the premise, though not new, is written so vividly and with depth of emotion the story becomes indelible.
I can’t do this book justice here – it has to be read/listened to. And I mean HAS to!
All I can say is that Mary Elizabeth has a similar writing style to other writers i adore– as in she has a natural way of layering a story, building the images, creating tensions with minimal ease and beautiful words. She weaves the storylines with golden threads of delight, creating dreamscapes that captivate and thrill the reader/listener, and pacing the story to perfection.
Incredibly, this story was narrated by Stella Hunter, who has magic in her voice - so expressive and sensitive to the emotions of the characters, and expertly moving from one character to the next with the ease of a very experienced voice actor. Exquisite! This was an incredible combination. I can’t wait to read/listen to book 2 in the Hush series!
Mary Elizabeth was a new author for me but now I am going to settle back and read everything she has ever written! That’s how amazing her writing is!

Definitely different and unique

Tramp by Mary Elizabeth
The Hush Series narration by Stella Hunter
Started May 17th

This is the first book by this author and I was really impressed by her writing. It’s a skeptical topic but I was pleased by how Mary brought out the best in her characters and it was original. So original it’s unlike anything I have ever read/listened to and I’m excited to hear more.

Lydia Montgomery is a girl who grew up with a stripper Mom and found out that looks really can make a difference in the world at a very young age watching her Mom, and trying to stay under the radar while being right there while her Mom worked as a stripper. She has an incredibly hard upbringing in that lifestyle and then finds herself alone at a young age to fend for herself without anywhere to go and without anyone to depend upon to help her. She finds an unlikely ally and support from Inez, who is her boss in a High end call girl business. Inez knows from personal experience that life can be full of hard knocks yet they have a deep respect and admiration for one another.

Lydia Montgomery goes by Cara Smith when she is the High End call girl that is the highest paid amongst them in Grand Haven. She is the ultimate professional and likes to keeps to herself. And doesn’t vary from her regular clients until Inez comes to her asking for a favour. That favour turns out to be a big surprise for both the very sexy bachelor Talent and Cara.

Cara is an ultimate professional and thought this appointment would be a step to future clients with a wealthy family but both Talent Ridge and Cara are mislead as to what the other thought was happening in that first encounter.

What follows is Talent pursuing her because he’s got his own sketchy skeletons hiding in his life too and acknowledges her work yet he wants her. He really isn’t who I expected in a Hero but he does show he really cares for Lydia and he is a man who gets what he wants. The chemistry between these two is undeniable and the caring and compassionate they formed was heart warming. He pulls out the best in her because he believes in her.

There’s a lot that happens in this first book of the series and I think the next book will show further just how beautifully these two are meant for one another.

I listened to the audiobook version and Stella Hunter was amazing at all the characters. The narration was distinct and expressive. She does an amazing job expressing all of characters emotions and feelings with a depth that made this a top notch book that left me reeling for days afterwards.

This was such a change of pace in the romance genre, original, gritty, and not the typical story. Honestly I was enthralled by the start of this series and can’t wait for more.

Great narration

I don’t think I have ever ready anything quite like this book before. It was a tiny bit slow at first, I felt like it took a while to get into the meat and potatoes of the story, but at the same time the author did a lot of back story building during that time so it wasn’t in vain.

I really liked Lydia and Ridge, but I think my favorite was Inez. The love that she had for Lydia was wonderful to watch. This is definitely worth a read. I think that if it has duel narration it would have put this book over the top for me to a five.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, and have voluntarily left this review.

A real pleasure

I didn’t expect to be moved that much by a story about an escort. And yet.

I liked Lydia a lot, especially at the beginning. Her strength and her determination were compelling. I thought, later in the book, that she became weak and lost her confidence. But then, she was always hiding her weaknesses behind a mask, so it was expected. Her meeting with Talent lets her show her broken heart.

I was more circumspect about Talent at first. I know that the instant connection is a big thing in romance, but Talent and Lydia’s first meeting was just paid sex, and yet he felt seen? I didn’t buy it. But I have to admit that he grew on me–he’s passionate, sensible, and just extra swoony.

With the story being told only through Lydia’s point of view, we get a lot of her backstory, and it was such an emotional journey! It was gritty, sad, with some sunny moments. Not a happy past though. But her relationships with Inez, then Dog, and finally Camilla, showed how much she open herself up after meeting with Talent.

There was a little bit of suspense, and some violence, that made for an intense final part of the story. Though it involved a huge dump of information, it was necessary since Lydia wasn’t privy it.

I really enjoyed the writing style. At times poetic, at other times almost technical, the words offered Lydia a voice and personality. Some moments were beautifully written.

The narration was perfection! The narrator gave her voice to Lydia’s cold determination and her fragile heart with the same conviction. A real pleasure.

5 Brilliant stars!

One word that best describes this book is phenomenal. This was my first Mary Elizabeth book; I absolutely loved her style; she goes the extra mile to engage her readers/listeners. Her writing is a smooth flow, beautiful, vivid, and touching. The storyline is fantastic, utterly addictive, exciting, sensual, steamy, and it hooked me from the very start; I couldn't stop listening.

Lydia Montgomery (A.K.A. Cara Smith) is a fascinating character with an amazingly strong and independent core, and I loved her authenticity. The male lead, Talent Ridge, a handsome and wealthy bachelor with a past and your traditional hero, which I liked. Together, the chemistry is potent, electrifying in every sense of the word. The attraction is undeniable, even though the last thing Lydia wants is to be attracted to a client. This story will get to you, and you will simply need to know what will be next. Simply, I can't wait for the second book in the series.

Stella Hunter did an outstanding job with the narration. Her portrayal of the characters' personalities and their emotions was perfect, bringing them to life. This was a fabulous listen and a must-read book! I'm definitely recommending it.
