About this listen

John Telfer reads this exciting Torchwood adventure - a prequel to Torchwood: Miracle Day.

When Oscar Lupe appears 20,000 feet up in the air, his body is frozen solid and free-falling to earth. It shatters on impact. Soon after, a CIA Special Activities Division squad goes rogue with a cargo marked ‘Torchwood’ that they’ve been escorting from somewhere called Cardiff.

The Agency puts Rex Matheson on the case. As the strange deaths pile up, Rex realises there must be experimental tech out there, but someone is obstructing him at every turn. Rex is the CIA’s golden boy - but has he met his match in the evasive Mr Wynter…?

Based on the hit series created by Russell T. Davies, The Men who Sold the World is a prequel to Torchwood: Miracle Day, starring John Barrowman and Eve Myles as Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper, with Mekhi Phifer as Rex Matheson.

Disappointing story

I'm usually a big fan of Torchwood but this is just an excuse for a lot of shooting. Very little science fiction involved. A shame, as Rex Matheson could be a more interesting character.

A Wonderful suprise!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I often find TV and Film tie in novels weak. Just part of the promotion effort, and when I began reading Torchwood novels to make up for the fact of their being no new TV episodes I wasn't expecting much...Thats why this book in particular was a nice suprise indeed! A prequel to the less than Wonderful Miracle Day series and featuring one of the less well liked characters I wasn't sure I would get through it..boy was I wrong! Excellent writing from Guy Adams (A writer I am unfamiliar with till now..) witty and fast paced dialogue, great inter personal relationships, Great story that brings in items recovered from the Tirchwood hub, and referenced in Classic Doctor Who episodes which give a lovely warm feeling to any Who fans reading this ( most?) I raced through this book in no time and wished it hand been longer!! Don't let the main character put you off.. You get a much better feel for Rex in this book.. Oh and Chapter 19 is possibly the most innovative section of a book I've come across in sometime! Excellent stuff!

What did you like best about this story?

Dialogue, Characters, Story. Dr Who references. Time Travel elements.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Prequels are often better than the Original..

Any additional comments?

More like this please and more from Mr Adams if possible!

Poor

Definitely not Torchwood. Couldn’t get into it all. Narrator wasn’t very good either. Shame as I love Torchwood.
