Summary

A simple mistake. A slip through time and space. A strange new world.

He should have been more careful. But Alfred Favero, Senior Analyst with the IRS, wasn’t. Now he’s stuck in a world of opposites, where everything he knows is called into question.

To survive in Yngil-wode, the taxman must rely on a mysterious band of outlaws and tax thieves. But he risks getting drawn into a war with a tyrant. He risks sacrificing every principle he holds sacred.

How far will a man of the law go to save his own neck? How far will he go to save the woman he loves?

Alfred’s about to find out.

Don't slip up and let this book get away

Wow another great instalment to the time traveling taxman series , although I think it should be called the Nancy series because there is no way Alfred would still be alive or sane without her. This is book four and each book is so different from the last that you never know what to expect, the writer certainly hasn't backed herself into a corner write about the same old thing., The only constant thing is its quirky, funny and enjoyable. Oh and the characters. This time the book sees a different twist on the Robin hood fable. Off to start the next book.
Nancy has managed to talk Alfred into camping and she has prepared for everything, being a Tec genius she has planned for everything. Even the fact that Alfred will forget something but the one thing she didn't plan for is the one thing that will send there lives spinning out of control. Leaving the time traveling device in the tent when there is a storm in the area, a tent with a leak. Water damage and Alfred PRESSING the button soon has them slipping into different realities, some that they didn't see coming . Before dumping them in Yngil-wode a world where out laws steal, refuse to pay taxes and live in woods. If living in woods wasn't bad enough for Alfred he now has to share this reality with another Alfred (called Fredo) and Justin (an annoying office colleague at the tax office) that got dragged with them from another time before the machine broke for what seems like the final jump. Can Alfred and Nancy get back to there world and time line or are they stuck for good?
I have grown to really like this narrator and his interpretation of Alfred and his friends.

Entertaining read

Time Slips and Tax Thieves, book four in The Travelling Taxman Series by Rachel Ford, read by John Carter Aimone.

One thing that can definitely not be said about Rachel is that she is formulaic, while the same characters appear the adventure is always new and very different from before.

******************** Warning Spoilers ***********************

Alfred Favero and Nancy Abbott are officially a couple and are on holiday. They are camping, which is a nightmare for the slightly neurotic Alfred, but it is amazing what one will do for love.

The tent leaks and the time travel device, they have from their first adventure, gets soaked and starts to malfunction. Alfred and Nancy are however not thrown into another time zone, but into a different reality. Where they encounter Justin Lyon, who is a colleague at the IRS and thorn in Alfred’s side, and in this parallel dimension is in a relationship with Nancy, they escape and jump into other universes and encounter different combinations of themselves and other people they know.

Still trying to return to their own reality they accidentally take that dimension’s couple with them. They land on a world and in a medieval timeline when the gizmo burns out and strands them.
They have to contend with a band of outlaws who oppose an evil tyrant and refuse to pay taxes to him.

This story is quirky and quite amusing and is based on the legend of Robin Hood, with a twist.
This is my least favourite of the four books I have read so far.
I do love the nod to the late Alan Rickman by naming the tyrant Lord Rickman. Alan Rickman played the part of the Sheriff of Nottingham in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Entertaining read.

I again enjoyed John’s narration and I will say again that increasing the playback speed to x1.10 improved the listening experience for me.

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review of my own opinion of it.

Time Slips

This is the fourth book n a great series. Our heroes find themselves in a shire and thought of as wizards. John Carter Aimone was a good narrator. His voice for the irritating main character is perfect. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
