Summary

(Book 6 in the Tyack & Frayne Mystery Series)

Gideon's managed to swing a few festive days off, and he and Lee are looking forward to celebrating their little girl's first birthday. But duty calls, and Gideon is too good an officer to ignore the summons. He finds himself on the streets of Penzance, helping police the midwinter Montol celebrations.

It's his third winter solstice with Lee, and disturbance, danger and magic are in the air. His daughter is beginning to show some remarkable gifts, and not all the family can cope with them. As the Montol festivities reach their fiery heights, will Lee and Gideon find a way to keep those they love best on the right side of the solstice gate?

A wonderful addition to Lee & Gideon's life story

I am loving being part of Gideon and Lee's life. Their love and conviction in each other is so beautiful and marvellous that I wish they were real and that I was part of their circle.

Eerie and Symbolic

As usual the relationship between Gid and Lee is one of the highlights of this series for me. In this particular installment, there is a growing Tamsin, which finally gives us the domesticity promised in the prior book. This part is even more symbolic and eerie than all before it, with a solstice festival underway and almost all the characters we met along the way are present and being real spooky! There are a few life threatening moments: as there usually are with Fox, no rest for the emotional haha, but overall it is yet another literary artpiece that is building a wonderful tapestry that is this series!

Exhausting and hilarious

I didn’t really know what to think of this story. It went further than I had expected it to go and a bit further than to my comfort. And a few loose ends didn’t tie up in the way I’d hoped it would but by now I know they might have been just twists and red herrings or it might become of importance much later. I have to admit though despite of some discomfort I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The light rules the dark and laughter rules over sorrows and it gets me smile and occasionally laugh out loud. Maybe that’s only my own bias or opinion but I’m happy to where it goes further on. I feel the urge and need though to learn more about the Cornish folklore. I’m used to Celtic and northern tales and mysteries but Cornwall is a blank spot on my world map. It still feels like home and the way it’s beautifully written and narrated I’d love to delve in deeper to dream on about this strange world which feels so real and right.
