Summary

Thicker than Blood: The Complete Andrew Z. Thomas Trilogy, is now available featuring a goldmine of killer bonus features, including the never-before-released alternate endings to both Desert Places and Locked Doors, which together comprise the length of an additional novel.

Desert Places: A Novel: Andrew Z. Thomas is a successful writer of suspense thrillers, living the dream at his lake house in the piedmont of North Carolina. One afternoon in late spring, he receives a bizarre letter that eventually threatens his career, his sanity, and the lives of everyone he loves. A murderer is designing his future, and for the life of him, Andrew can't get away.

Locked Doors: A Novel: Seven years ago, suspense novelist Andrew Thomas's life was shattered when he was framed for a series of murders. The killer's victims were unearthed on Andrew's lakefront property, and since he was wanted by the FBI, Andrew had no choice but to flee and to create a new identity. Andrew does just that in a cabin tucked away in the remote wilderness near Haines Junction, Yukon. His only link to society is by e-mail, through which he learns that all the people he ever loved are being stalked and murdered. Culminating in the spooky and secluded Outer Banks of North Carolina, the paths of Andrew Thomas, a psychotic named Luther Kite, and a young female detective collide.

Break You: A Novella: Following the events of Desert Places and Locked Doors, Andy Thomas and Violet King are hiding out in the wilds of northern Canada, where Violet has a four-month-old son and a burgeoning romance with Andy. On a cold, rainy night at their cabin in the woods, the promise of an idyllic life that seems just around the corner is shattered when a man from their past, a monster of pure malevolence, returns. What he has in store for them will challenge their understanding of evil and stretch the fibers of their love to the breaking point.

great trilogy for the price of one story

although long, it doesn't seem so when listening to it. A good story builds gradually and kept me entertained for hours whilst working away in the garden.

Three books where one would have sufficed.

This decent enough story was told in its first instalment, with no need for a sequel, certainly not a 3rd novella size book end. The theme of ‘What is a person capable of at their core nature’ Which ran through Desert Places, is literally abandoned in the follow up and then seemingly ‘shoe horned’ back into the tiny end instalment, almost like he wanted to just write a quick ending to finish the trilogy. I guess, as it had been years since he’d left the ending open. By the end of the 17 hours, I was so sick of hearing them plead for their life that I wished he’d just kill them and put me out of my misery. If you like break crotch, try his excellent and intellectual standalone books like Dark Matter or Recursion.

Graphically violent - and non-returnable

I loved Recursion. In this book the protagonist is supposed to be 34. The narrator has a great voice, but sounds 64. Better suited to other characters. The story is literally blood and gore from start to chapter 29, where I ditched it (with 11 hours to go). I buy extra credits monthly and play fair. There is no mention of selected titles being ineligible for return

Had to abandon this without finishing

For the first time ever, I had to abandon an audiobook part way through. Just couldn't get into this at all despite repeatedly trying. Found it too sickening (and I'm no lightweight) and the plot far too convulted and tedious to be engaging. Just not for me unfortunately.

so dissapointed :-((

Blake Crouch is in my opinion one of the best sci writers of this new century - so obviously I was prepared for something else - but this ...? Serial killers by the dusins having fun showing off for each other, with minute detail to the killings. Boring and very predictable. In all honestly I gave up half way - so I can't review the entirety.
