An instant
Sunday Times bestseller and soon to be a major motion picture!

Women can be heroes, too’. When twenty-year-old nursing student, Frances “Frankie” McGrath, hears these unexpected words, it is a revelation. Raised on California’s idyllic Coronado Island and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing, being a good girl. But in 1965 the world is changing, and she suddenly imagines a different path for her life. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she impulsively joins the Army Nurses Corps and follows his path.

As green and inexperienced as the young men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war, as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed America. Frankie will also discover the true value of female friendship and the heartbreak that love can cause.

The Women was a Sunday Times bestseller from 17.2.24-13.4.24

Brilliant

I was grabbed by this book immediately. It is narrated beautifully. I know so little about this war. Will definitely be doing more research into it. I am a fan of this author - I like how historical events are woven in her novels. Definitely would recommend.

Lambs to the slaughter.

My heartfelt gratitude, Kristin Hannah, for investing your time and talent in crafting this remarkable book. It has opened my eyes to the harsh realities of the Vietnam War, a conflict I had little knowledge of. Your work has shed light on the senselessness of war, where countless young lives are lost in futile arguments.
The narrative of Frankie's personal war was a poignant journey that left a deep impression. Each page turned was a step closer to understanding her pain and the circumstances that were beyond her control. I found myself yearning to comfort her, to reassure her of her struggle.
The chapter depicting Frankie's return home was a chilling revelation that will stay with me for a long time. This book has left an indelible mark on my understanding of war and its aftermath, and I believe it will do the same for others who read it.
A masterpiece. Ms Hannah, take a bow.

Reminder of the hardship of the women who served

An engrossing read well narrated . Not for the faint hearted at times : . but so well written from a medical point of view and following the unfolding of what was a shocking time . A very memorable audio book and highly recommended .

Incredible novel- a must read

A moving and educational description of love and friendship during the time of the Vietnam war and beyond. I was fully invested in Frankie from the very beginning and shared her many heartbreaks as I went on her journey with her. An inspiring story that will stay with me forever

Unknown experience.

Wow. Every young woman and every young man, every old man and every old woman should read this book. Vietnam is fast becoming a forgotten war and few look at any war and post war experiences of woman. This book opened my eyes and I had a sob of emotion as the last lines were read.

I'm an emotional wreck!

As a nurse I could relate to Frankie and as a woman I could relate to those intense relationships we have during extraordinary shared experiences.
although I thought I knew the history of the Vietnam war, this book brought it to life in a way I did not think possible.
it's right up there with the best books I've ever read.
it changed me
