Summary

Antoinette Conway, the tough, abrasive detective from The Secret Place, is still on the Murder Squad, but only just. She's partnered up with Stephen Moran now, and that's going well - but the rest of her working life isn't. Antoinette doesn't play well with others, and there's a vicious running campaign in the squad to get rid of her.

She and Stephen pull a case that at first looks like a slam dunk lovers' tiff, but gradually they realise there's more going on: someone on their own squad is trying to push them towards the obvious solution, away from nagging questions.

They have to work out whether this is just an escalation in the drive to get rid of her - or whether there's something deeper and darker going on.

Too long

The story was way too long - it could've lost a third of the story and been much tighter! Not that much suspense. Somewhat disappointed.

Good, but not as good as the previous ones

Any additional comments?

I have really enjoyed this series of books and have steadily worked my way through all six over the last year! Although all enjoyable, some have been better than others. I listened to book 5 and 6 back to back and 5 is much better. I didn't warm to Det Conway as much as the others.

Despite all that, I'd still recommend this book and especially the series

Gripping with excellent characters

Beautifully written and set out story, all the way to the last line. Alas, sadly the last (as at January 2019) of an excellent series of DMS books. Cannot wait for the next book.

I enjoyed this

I enjoyed this audible book. Would I have enjoyed reading it?... less so perhaps. I listen to audiobooks while taking the dog for a walk or in static situations . Anyway, I did enjoy it and thought that the reader did a good job

Excellent

Another excellent book from Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad. I don't know how she does it! Realistic, uncompromising characters within compelling and intricate story-lines. I listen to, rather than read, books these days and the narrators of this series are superb. I love every book in this series and would recommend them to any adults who enjoy intricate mysteries, thrillers, whodunnits, etc, involving characters and situations brought to life by this utterly modern, gritty, thoughtful and overwhelmingly good author. My only criticism would be that there's no way Tana French can write fast enough for me!

Fantastic listen

This is definitely Tana French's best book to date. The narrator was brilliant and brought the characters to life. Gripping from start to finish.

Great read

Some of the narrating was a little ‘iffy’ at times but once you can get beyond the dodgy accents .. this is a great book. Highly recommend.
