Absolutely brilliant!
This book had me laughing one minute and crying the next I thoroughly enjoyed the relationships between the excellently drawn characters and can’t wait until the next book in the series comes out so I can join them on another adventure.
I greatly appreciated the lack of unnecessary swear words and hope it continues, it proves that it is still possible to write a fantastic modern crime story without every other word beginning with F.
Whilst reading this book was a great deal of fun, some of the more serious moments made me stop and think. For an author to combine such disparate elements into one narrative shows them to have true talent.
Add to all of this the perfect choice of narrator and I could do no no less than five full marks!

Wow
I absolutely love this book. The narration was excellent. I smiled, laughed, cried and listened with anticipation. I absolutely love murder mysteries and this was on point. The story was not predictable and had me guessing. Can’t wait for the second. Well done Richard on your successful debut.

Fabulous read
Absolutely loved everything about this book. The story is rich and compelling. The characters are so well written and you get to know them all really well and they are a very likeable bunch. The plot is fantastic. It's current and very funny at times, at other times very moving. Great narration too. I highly recommend it. Best book I have listened to in years. Very well done Richard Osman. Marian Keys is right, you have produced a modern classic. Can't wait for book 2.

Cosy Sunday Afternoon Mystery
I read a lot of mixed reviews about this book but decided to give it a try. It's not quite Harlan Coben but I don't think it's meant to be. It's a cosy Sunday afternoon, easy listening, simple story to follow and a nice array of characters. Some of the plot points were a bit predictable and some not very realistic but I appreciated the story for what is it.

Brilliant, unsure what some people hate
I've had to write a review after seeing so many odd ones! This book is lovely. Its not a thick plot crime thriller, its about a group of residents in a care village creating a club and then getting involved in trying to solve a crime within the community and its lovely! Heart warming and interesting and just a great read/listen. I look forward to the second one. Great narrator too, im often put off if I don't like the narrator and all I heard were the characters as I was supposed too. 5 starless, thank you Richard!

Entertaining!
I am writing this in response to a really negative review that I have just read. It just shows the diversity of the human race that I have such a contrasting opinion. This is only the second audio book I have listened to and I am finding it a real pleasure. The characterisation is excellent with a variety of people. The story is an old theme (murder) with the investigation approached from a unique angle and there are enough chuckles to keep me amused.
Lesley Manville has been a really good choice as performer. She imbues each of the cast with a personality and sets a suitable pace for the story.
I only gave 4 stars to each category as I am a newbie to audible and therefore have little to compare it with but I look forward to finding a better audible book because, if I do it will be a very good listen!

Entertaining but flawed
The pace is very slow, which is unusual for a shortish book of 10 hours. I believe it's because of all the details and fleshed out background stories for each character. There's a lot of main characters that you have to contend with and it gets confusing quickly, so I did have to double back at certain stages, as I had gotten lost of who was who.
There's some good twists and turns, but sometimes Joyce and Elizabeth seem to solve stuff magically, which is disorientating as I had no idea how they worked some of the clues out.
Good first book to read for the start of a new year.
