About this listen

Milton Frederick was arguably the best player of Crowned Lieges of Destiny in the entire world. As the strategy coordinator for one of the top guilds, he was beginning to actually make a living from it. That was, until he was abducted by aliens.

Instead of your stereotypical grey aliens with big black eyes who like to perform anal probes upon unsuspecting victims for unknown reasons, the Collective had a more altruistic purpose. Sure, kidnapping 100 humans from Earth, ripping them away from their lives and families, and erasing their memories doesn’t sound great - but the way they saw it, the benefits would far outweigh these side-effects. Seriously, who wouldn’t want their consciousness trapped in a Station Core, subjected to the whims of a collection of alien races, and then ordered to defend against other hostile aliens for all eternity? They’d be immortal - so...bonus!

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), the Station Core now known as Milton never arrived at his destination. Severely damaged and confused about what happened to him, he woke up to find himself trapped inside a massive chicken egg on a strange, primitive world filled with curious - and deadly - creatures.

Now, in order to survive the harsh environment, Milton has to rely on a snarky, foul-mouthed AI guide to show him what it means to be a Station Core. With her help, he might just live long enough to figure out a way to get off the planet - if only he wasn’t so afraid of squirrels....

Contains litRPG/gamelit elements such as level progression and experience, optional tables, no harems, and a heavy dungeon-core emphasis.

Based on feedback, there has been an update to include the absent footnotes to the narration. Many of the longer stat table footnotes are contained in separate chapters for ease of listening.

Great read. Pacing felt a little slow but I enjoyed the skill of the narrator

Not what I expected, but good anyway

I was at least half expecting this to be a more sci-fi setting, rather than pure fantasy, but I wasn't disappointed when it wasn't.

It's has a clever rationale for the setup of the situation, interesting and likable characters, and a nice world setting.

My only criticism would be that the book is paced a little slowly at times, but overall still worth the read (well, listen) and I'll definitely be continuing the series.

Fun young adult gamelit

The set up to the main story was a bit slow. Ones Milton’s story started the story picked up and I found it enjoyable and was surprised by the twist at the end. I look forward to fearing more in the series

Not a good story for little ears due to the swearing.

Reviewed from an early introduction to gameLit

Having recently discovered the genre of gameLit This review is based on little insight of previous books of this type. As such I cannot compare or contrast.
So here goes: I found the initial pace of the story to be quite slow, but knowing there is a further 4 books in the series I was more than happy with what can be described as a good introduction to a very compelling saga.
The low character count thus far made it easy to get to know their engaging personalities without being overwhelmed with multiple groups/clans or classes.
Personally I found the “Stats Chapters” to be a great way of recapping on the creations of & XP progression of the main character, allowing the listener the choice to skip the chapter if they so desired.
The narrator has a great tone, nice pace with a good number of variations giving the characters more depth & uniqueness.
I am fully intrigued in the development of this story and am very much looking forward to the next book.
Great work Jonathan Brooks! I’m extremely happy with this engaging foray into your creative world.
I would definitely recommend this if you are new to the genre.

Not my normal listen ... really glad I did!

I’ve been reading litRPG for a while now, but never of this type and I’m so glad I did. Exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Looking forward to book 2!

Good take on the LitRPG theme

Good first book of a series, fun and well paced. Some of the swearing although funny maybe a little excessive. looking forward to the next book.

Entertaining start to this series

The setup for this dungeon core book is an interesting approach to the basic premise, you have a gamer from earth being kidnapped and transferred into the station core by one group of aliens (calling themselves pacifists while effectively killing the people they kidnap seems like a stretch) to fight a different set of aliens, before crashing on an entirely different alien world.

One issue with such books is that the early stages can end up being quite repetitive as a new dungeon is limited in what it can do or build and the author uses a number of time skips to avoid this and getting to the point where the series really starts. The cast of characters is fairly small to start out, but are interesting and likeable enough to draw in the reader.

The narrator does a good job overall of enhancing the story with a suitably distinctive range of voices for the characters and deals well with the large amount of stats too.

Overall, a good start to this series and I will be listening to subsequent ones too.
