About this listen

Meet Adrian Mole, a hapless teenager providing an unabashed, pimples-and-all glimpse into adolescent life. Writing candidly about his parents' marital troubles, the dog, and his life as a tortured poet and 'misunderstood intellectual', Adrian's painfully honest diary is still hilarious and compelling reading thirty years after it first appeared.

Critic reviews

"We laugh both at Mole and with him. A wonderful comic read, that, like all the best comedy, says something rather meaningful." (Heat)

still just as funny

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

of course......
for anyone who grew up in the 80's this was one of THE books to read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved grandma, she was funny and warm....and of course we see our family in them.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Christmas........

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I have, and re-listened

A Laugh A Minute!

This is fantastic.

I laughed from beginning to end. As in actually laugh out loud!

I warmed to the narrator. Initially I wasn’t keen but I think this is because I wasn’t use to his voice. In my head Adrian has a different voice from when I read the books. I used to read him in Will McKenzie’s voice from The Inbetweeners, so I had to get use to a new voice.

Still, this doesn’t take anything away from the audiobook.

After finishing this review I’ll be getting the next diary.

Good as a kid, still good as an adult!

Always loved this book.. But I don't remember it just stopping without some kind of tidy ending.. Feeling a bit undone. Going to have to start on book 2 now.

You're never too old

I had of course heard of this book series over the years but being born in the late 80's it had passed me by. Then as I became a teacher I read about it and then picked up a copy from our library. I found it utterly hilarious. It resonates with me, even now, what teenage life was like and even though it referenced the ear a lot it was written so well that I still found it relatable and relevant. The performance was brilliant, a teenage voice perfectly enhanced but the grunting idioms they make. Highly recommend this. You're never too old to enjoy it and if you have kids it may help to remind you what it was like to be 13!

Poor old Adrian Mold

I remember finding the Adrian Moles hilarious when I was 12. Experiencing them again as an adult has just made me sad. I suppose humor is a good way to deal with hardship, but on the whole, my empathy for Mole overrode my sense of humor. Poor chap

Entertaining!

Very odd listening to the inner think of a 13 & 3/4 year old boy. Very entertaining!

I'd forgotten how good it is...

I read this book many years ago as a teenager. I'd forgotten just how good it is. So funny, i really enjoyed the narration too. The narrator was perfect as a teenager boy. brilliant!

Absolutely fantastic

This series is fantastic - Adrian is such an intelligent boy with such a lack of common sense and no filter for his words. A very blunt and straightforward boy and one amazing diary.
