About this listen

Broadcaster, writer, philanthroper and one of the first public figures to suggest high-visibility clothing for people manning temporary car parks, the public Alan Partridge is a cherished institution.

But what of the unseen Alan?

For the first time, this famously private man welcomes us into his home and audibly deshrouds himself for a fascinating series of podcasts. Over the course of 18 generously durated episodes, Partridge grants us full and unfettered access to his off-screen life (within reason).

In exchange for a series of payments from Audible, he promises an access-all-areas pass to the nooks and crannies of his hinterland, to reveal a wiser, cleverer, more reflective Alan than many of his more vaunted peers have given him credit for. He then sends the resultant podcasts to Audible ensuring they meet the technical specifications laid down in the contract.

Perfection

So, so good. Detailed, layered and hilarious. I don’t know how Steve Coogan manages to get so much variation and subtlety into his delivery but it’s the most surprising, engaging and intricate voice-acting I’ve encountered. The way the character has developed and matured while remaining consistently, believably atrocious yet sometimes endearing is remarkable. There is so much material here of really high quality - a total treat.

Partridge at his best

Absolutely classic Partridge - cried with laughter so many times - had to pull over whilst driving once as I had tears in my eyes. Utter genius - thanks Alan

Still just as funny

I really enjoyed this book. So much so that once it finished I played it all over again. It really is that good. Didn’t have much expectations for this as is always think before I start reading/listening to a new Partridge that he will do off the boil and disappoint but this was just brilliant. The idea that Alan decides to jump on the podcast bandwagon because it’s cheap and easy and he can self edit is hilarious. Made me laugh out loud many times and it was worth every penny. If you like AP then don’t debate getting this, you will not regret it.
