stunning listen
Terry Brooks has always been a firm favourite author of mine. And, like with most of his works, this was an enjoyable and exceptional book. It was also narrated beautifully.

What goes around comes around
The flavour and intensity of the previous books maintained, and I like the fact that the exact underlying cause of all the scion troubles is kept concealed.

Awesome book but the narrator isn't great.
The book is as great as I remember, the series one if my favourites of all time, but the narrator isn't great. He has essentially two character voices and read the lines in a quick matter of fact way with a pause in between but no emphasise on any part of the sentence. you do get used to it after a while, or maybe he gets better over time but it still comes in way short of what other narrators on audible manage.

Another great book from Terry Brooks.
The book is just great. The pace, descriptives and the overall story can't be faulted.
The performance let it down though. Although John Lee has a lovely tone to his voice the pause on commas was a bit excessive which made it hard to follow in places as it sounded more like a new sentance pause. For example a sentence could read "they were exhausted, too tired to speak. Par laid there...." but it sounds like "they were exhausted. Too tired to speak par laid there...". Although this is a poor example it did, at times, make following the story difficult as sentences took on new meanings. And some sentences were over punctuated and emphasised. By this I mean each word was pronounced almost,, as a separate sentence. One. Word. At. A. Time. It became very tedious. I really want to listen to the rest of the series but am not sure I can put up with the performance, such a shame.

I really realy enjoyed this! Excellent Narration!
I really enjoyed this. It was fast paced with good complex characters--the characters were very well expressed by John Lee. Thankyou!

Narration is horrendous
Having read all the Shannara books, I downloaded the audio books to listen to while I drove to work etc,
Having listened to the first king of shannara etc read by Scott Brick, I loved it.
Excited to start listening to the scions of shannara, I was sorely disappointed, it wasn’t read by Scott Brick but a gentleman called John Lee.
His narrative of the book appeared horrendous , he seems to accentuate the word at the beginning end end of a sentence. It’s not free flowing. PAR spoke softly TO everyone.
I’m tempted to skip this one and move on to the next book that is read by Scott Brick.
I pray that John Lee was only given a few of the shannara to narrate.
I will check who is narrating the books before I purchase.

The voice guy 😆
I have read all of the shannara books and hold them all highly in the high fantasy genre. So I decided to listen to them this being the first one with John lee. Well wow I love his distinct short and clip sentences. It will not be for everyone but it definitely works for me. Loved every minute. Well done

A good story ruined by the narrator.
My title says it all but I will detail it a little more.
The narrator has a voice perfectly suited for reading historical works but he is not suited to this type of fiction. He speaks with a strange cadence and ends sentences in an oddly clipped way. I would absolutely love to hear him narrate the history of WW1/2 and/or numerous military campaigns. I do not however understand why he was employed to read this work of fantasy fiction.
John Banks or someone like him would have been a superior choice.
