Summary

This is the FoxTales version of the work previously released through Samhain Publishing. Other than the cover material, the book is the same.

Shattered by his lover Jason's suicide, archaeologist Dan Logan is struggling to patch his life together again. He's desperately following up Jason's final obsession, a secret buried deep within the military zone on Salisbury Plain. Anything is better than facing the void of his grief.

He's convinced he'll never love again. When unexpected help arrives in the form of a soldier named Summer Rayne, the last thing Dan could have predicted is the spark of attraction between them. And at first their relationship is fraught with so much conflict, their investigation into the circumstances of Jason's death looks more likely to cause one of their own.

But Rayne is smart, and very kind beneath his soldierly reserve. As the mystery of the Plain begins to vortex around them, dangerous secrets emerge, and Rayne and Dan have to work closely together to protect one another and the sanctity of Jason's memory. A wild new romance takes fire against all odds in the heat of a Salisbury summer, and the soldier and the archaeologist are only on the brink of the mystery of the legendary Salisbury Key.

A wild ride

I found the first few minutes hard going. The narators voice for Jason and Jasons dialogue felt ... weird. It made me uncomfortable.
Im really glad i kept listening though as i enjoyed the story immensley. The writing was beautiful and had me laughing out loud a few times. There were a few bits i thought were unclear in the story but the relationship between Daniel and Raine was wonderful. The anguish, emotion, and witty banter was a delight to have read to me.

Cannot recommend any more highly

Having lived in Salisbury for many years this was a fabulous audio book to undertake. In many ways it’s like a gay Da Vinci Code. Excellently performed, breathtakingly timed and some truly edge of seat moments. Well worth listening to.

She’s done it again!

Another winner from Harper. She’s fast becoming a go to for me. Just as well she’s so prolific!
Great premise, fabulous storyline that keeps unraveling right to the end. Great characters. Lovely performance by narrator. The spice is suitably spicy, and not overdone. 10/10 would recommend

The mystery is brilliant!

I am a big fan of Fox and have consumed most of her works within the last year. While this is a wonderful novel with a gripping mystery, emotional turmoil, harrowing events and great characters that develop and grow throughout the story together, in my humble opinion it is not one of her best. First of all I have no comments on the mystery, the way it developed and the way it was revealed. That was amazing. My tiny gripe is with the character of Daniel. While his behaviour is fully understandable due to circumstances I shall not name (lest I spoil the whole book), it appears that he tends to act very immature for his age. Maybe it is just me but I found him a little ditsy, which with the stakes that he is dealing with is a little infuriating to the reader. But these are just nitpickings of a fan thar has read the full breadth of Fox's masterpieces and is simply comparing them to each other. Definitely I recommend a read.

ok book

The book was ok. While the narrator was good, I found nearly every character unpleasant, including the main character. As a result, reading this was somewhat tedious.

The best Harper Fox book.

I have listened to about 7 or 8 Harper Fox books, my favourite before hearing this one, was Last Line.
However, the Salisbury Key has topped my list now.
It has everything, it made me laugh, cry like a baby and kept me listening on edge throughout.
I would honestly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre, I will be listening to this one again and again.

Another wonderful story from Harper Fox

I adore this book. The narration is really well done and adds even more emotion to this story. Rayne is such a solid kind character, not unrealistically sweet but a decent kind man. Wonderful archeology and a great mystery combine to make a nicely paced story.
