Summary
Lady Georgiana Rannoch is looking forward to her first ever turn as hostess for her very own house party when the festivities lead to murder....
Georgie, back home at her estate in Eynsleigh, impatiently awaits the birth of her baby. But she has plenty to occupy her: Her new chef, Pierre, has arrived from Paris, and Sir Hubert, who owns Eynsleigh, is back from his latest expedition. It's time for Georgie to throw her first house party to celebrate his return and show off her new chef. The dinner party is a smashing success. Sir Mortimer Mordred—famous author of creepy Gothic horror novels—is one of the guests. He recently purchased a nearby Elizabethan manor nearby because it has a famous poison garden. After the dinner, Sir Mortimer approaches Georgie and asks to borrow her new chef for his upcoming party, and Georgie and Darcy, her dashing husband, are invited!
The tour of the poison garden is fascinating, as is Sir Mortimer’s laboratory. Shockingly, just after the banquet several of the guests become sick. And one dies, apparently poisoned by berries from the garden. But how could this be when they all ate the same meal and the same delectable dessert? Georgie has to find the culprit to save her new chef and her own reputation—all before her bundle of joy arrives!

The Proof of the Pudding
As the French chief arrives and takes over from Queenie, with Sir Hughbert impending arrival home and their pending birth of their first child slot are happening at the moment. After the successful first dinner party a local celebrity has asked to borrow the chief for his party. It all goes wrong when guests come down with good poisoning.
With the help of Agitha Christy, they find out who but not why! Read brilliantly again by Jasmine Blackborow.

Ending rather abbreviated
The story is a great addition to the series but the end rushed up with little fanfare or drama. Stories could have been set at the scene of the crime, with the murderer unmasked, other people draw into his ‘cunning’ plan looking on with shock/glee/whatever. Instead, it was: “…this person did it so that’s OK. All sorted. Meanwhile….” All rather too quick. Otherwise good fun listening.

just finished the last book in the series
over all I enjoyed this series of books very much. its full of mystery, intrigue and generally with a happy ending which is eight up my street.
I enjoyed the view of 1920s society and the challenges of being a woman of any class.

Excellent addition to the series
Our gallant heroine, now 8 months pregnant finds more murders to solve. This tine with some help from a very well known detective.

Delightful escapism
Another resounding success. I have loved the series and the development of the characters and their lives over the books.
Georgie is expecting her first child when murder strikes. An excellent build up to the event with interesting characters. To have Agatha Christie turn up was a joy, another of my favourite authors.
As always I don’t want the story to end! Excellent narration and beautifully eloquent pronunciation, just perfect!

Not your best but I think I see where you are going..
I must admit it might be because I have listened to all preceding books and other books written by Rhys that I saw the end of this book earlier than usual but if we are to meet A.C. again and take a dip in Torquay I’m all for it!

Worse than usual
The culprit on this one was really obvious and it was somewhat repetitive rehashing the same information over and over again. In short one of the weakest in the series

Entertaining, but not terribly original
I’ve been waiting for this audio release with great anticipation. Sadly, it’s been a bit disappointing. All the main characters seem flat, more one dimensional than in previous novels. Queenie was the only sparkle who showed us her femme fatale side when smitten by the French chef, Pierre. Quite funny actually.
The plot is similar to other mystery novels, which may explain Agatha Christy’s appearance. The pacing plods along, but the introduction of new characters keeps the red herrings flying about and provides interesting insights.
In the end, the novel was quite short. Perhaps the author needs a break from this particular series. Wish I had my credit back.
