About this listen

Agatha Christie’s most daring crime mystery – an early and particularly brilliant outing of Hercule Poirot, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, with its legendary twist, changed the detective fiction genre for ever.

Roger Ackroyd was about to be married. He had a life of wealth and privilege. First he lost his fiancée – and then his life.

The day after her tragic suicide he retires upstairs to read a mysterious letter, leaving his closest friends and family to eat dinner below.

Just a few hours later he is found stabbed to death in a locked room with a weapon from his own collection.

Was he killed for money? For love? Or for something altogether more sinister?

The truth will out.
But you won’t see it coming.

A typical Christie mystery beautifully read.

I enjoyed the characters and the setting. I didn't unravel the mystery before the end so it kept my attention but I always feel a bit cheated when some facts are revealed in the summing up that haven't been revealed to the reader earlier. don't let that put you off though as there are clues along the way.

One of Christie’s best!

I’ve listened to a fair few Poirot mysteries on audible, and held off with this book for a while (it’s regarded as being one of the best). It’s certainly had me guessing right until the end (as they often all do) and I would indeed rank this in my top 3 Poirot stories.
Hugh Fraser does what he does best as the narrator- he owns each character and delivers everything with brilliant meaning.
Listen to this book. It’s brilliant.

One of Christie’s best stories

Quintessential Agatha Christie. Lots of possible perpetrators and Poirot playing things close to his chest. Complicated but plausible resolution. Hugh Fraser is an ideal narrator being a familiar voice as Hastings and adept at different voices. Highly enjoyable.

One of the best Poirot stories

Well, I certainly did not expect that ending. A genuinely fantastic book and, as ever, immaculate narration by Hugh Fraser. Definitely one of my favourite Poirot books.
