About this listen

In the near future, where America has become a police state, 100 boys are selected to enter an annual contest where the winner will be awarded whatever he wants for the rest of his life.

The game is simple - maintain a steady walking pace of four miles per hour without stopping. Three warnings and you're out - permanently.

Endurance of epic proportions

A classic King / Bachman book. The Bachman books always seem to include a measure of endurance, a story of people against adversity. Like thinner, the long walk describes the sheer horror of the endurance in great detail.

The narration was an absolute delight. The many participants of the long walk all had their own voices and their own personality.

Breathtaking

The single best story in the Bachman Books. It tugs on every heartstring. Simply amazing.

interesting story, abrupt ending

I enjoyed the journey here, but I really wanted an extra chapter at the end showing what happens next. i understand why it was ambiguous, but it's just left me feeling unsatisfied.

Amazing.

Very grim. Got through it in couple days very gripping. Well narrated, once you start couldn't stop thinking about it until I was finished.

From the writer of the Running Man comes...

The Walking Boy!

Excellent book. I really enjoyed it. Superbly written, as you’d expect from the King. The narration is top notch. It doesn’t get annoying and is clear and balanced.
Highly recommended.

1st warning no. (enter your number here)

Great performance by Kirby Hayborne fitted the style of story.

2nd warning no. (enter your number here)

I'm training for a walking marathon in a few weeks time this story came up on a support forum as one to lisen to. And I'm so glad I did. I've read quite a few Stephen King books over the years and he is one of my favourite authors. And this story simple in idea but so well "executed" is thought provoking in a way only SK seems to be able to do.

Final warning no. (enter your number here)

Defanelty worth a listen or read..

"BANG"!

A familiar genre story that keeps you hooked!

Absolutely loved the story and characters! I couldn't wait to find out the fate of everyone. It also evokes how gruelling a long walking contest could be in a dystopian totalitarian future. Very vivid. Read it and you won't be disappointed!

Harrowing... but excellent.

A long walk for 100 boys. Last man standing. Makes you think about our gameshow society and priorities. Hints later that the reality is based on a different outcome In WW2

Very good, but...

... It kinda ruined The Hunger games for me, as I wasn't aware how similar the two are. In any case, it is a very good book! And my first finished by Stephen King (after a failed attempt when I was 15 to read Pet Cemetery).

Fantastic novel, brilliantly read

I first read this in 1993 and coming back to it in Audible form in 2020, I still think it's one of King's best works, horrifying and incredibly moving. The narration by Kirby Heybourne is remarkable. Just an amazing audio book.
