Summary

An original story from the creator and writer of the hit BBC One TV series Death in Paradise, featuring on-screen favourite detective DI Richard Poole.

Supermodel Polly Carter was famed for her looks and party-girl lifestyle. Now she's dead, apparently having thrown herself from the clifftop near her home on the island of Saint-Marie. Those who knew her say Polly would never have killed herself...and when he is called in to investigate, DI Richard Poole is inclined to agree there is more to Polly's death than meets the eye.

Already fighting a losing battle against the intense summer heat of the Caribbean, Richard now faces fresh adversaries: a stream of alibis; a host of conflicting motives; and, worst of all, a visit from his mother. A frenzy which would surely allow a murderer to slip away unnoticed...yet Richard is certain that the guilty party is still on the island.

As his team closes in on Polly's household, Richard becomes convinced that the model's death was an inside job. And he's determined to prove who planned the killing of Polly Carter and why....

Quirky Caribbean mystery

Excellently narrated with a quirky storyline. Similar to the television series, but with much more detail, obviously, and a typically Caribbean leisurely pace.

Really enjoyed it

The stories definitely have the same feeling and atmosphere as the TV series. I especially like the way that I found it very difficult to pick the killer from the suspects but the clues were all there, there were no unfair tricks just a very clever puzzle. Excellent narration too.

Another masterpiece of writing!

I really love these books. I was sure I had it all worked out very early on in this listen. I had it so wrong, but it wasn't until the very end that I found out just how wrong I was. I can't wait to read more. Brilliantly narrated.

excellent all round story

The story was very good and kept you guessing right to the end. The narrator had good distinct voices for each character and especially brought the main character to life.

An extension of TV series 1 & 2

I listened to this after hearing the 'Meditation on Murder' story and this is much better. There were many possible suspects with plausible reasons to commit the murder and there were red herrings to throw the reader off course. Also, it seemed that the characterisation of Inspector Poole's colleagues more closely reflected the TV series actors, in a way that made it easy to visualise what this story would be like if played by the original cast. And their level of involvement was in line with the TV series. Finally, Phil Fox did an excellent job in bringing the story to life.

So, if you are a fan of TV series 1 & 2 then you will enjoy this book.

Thoroughly entertaining

If you love the TV series with Richard, Camille, Fidel, Dwayne and a sprinkling of Catherine you will love this tale of murder on the island of Saint-Marie in the Caribbean. The awkward but brilliant British detective unravels the web with his usual style. Can't wait for the next one!
