Summary

The Hunger of the Gods continues John Gwynne's acclaimed Norse-inspired epic fantasy series, packed with myth, magic and bloody vengeance

THE DEAD GODS ARE RISING . . .

Lik-Rifa, the dragon god of legend, has been freed from her eternal prison. Now she plots a new age of blood and conquest.

As Orka continues the hunt for her missing son, the Bloodsworn sweep south in a desperate race to save one of their own—and Varg takes the first steps on the path of vengeance.

Elvar has sworn to fulfil her blood oath and rescue a prisoner from the clutches of Lik-Rifa and her dragonborn followers, but first she must persuade the Battle-Grim to follow her.

Yet even the might of the Bloodsworn and Battle-Grim cannot stand alone against a dragon god.

Their hope lies within the mad writings of a chained god. A book of forbidden magic with the power to raise the wolf god Ulfrir from the dead . . . and bring about a battle that will shake the foundations of the earth.

A book to listen to...

The First book I found it hard to grasp the characters and understand the differences at the beginning and gradually I became entwined with the story. With the second book there is no need for introduction and the story delves deep quick and it gripped me from the first chapter. I'm going to happily re-listen to the first book and probably this one too. Can't wait for the third installment.

Great Saga

really enjoyed the second part.
story & performance are great .
only slight criticism would be . to many times the characters are identified time and time again in the same conversation
"lif said"
"varg said"
really no need as the narrator has enough life in each character that it's not needed.

Brilliant. Can’t wait for the next one

Great listen, love the chapters/stories of each character all running along with each other, intertwining.

Fantastic

Again this writer has gone one further with this new saga. I am left feeling bereft that this stage is over.

Jarls spoiled brat!

First book was exelent, but I got quiet irritated of Elvar at very beginning of this book and started to hate her even more as book progressed. In the end I almost had to skip all her chapters.

Epic tale

Often the middle book in a trilogy is a disappointment but not this time. In fact, the only disappointment is the wait I will have to endure until the final book arrives. John Gwynne is a brilliant author of fantasy fiction.

Another epic instalment

I loved this book and the narration was engaging and immersive. The different character arcs are well conceived and the world Gwynne has created is incredibly compelling. I can't wait for book three!

Great story but made difficult to follow with inconsistent narration

The story itself was excellent and can’t wait for the next installment. The narrator kept a good tone throughout the story and was clear. However, the narration on this audiobook does not seem like it went past any sort of quality control. Name pronunciation changed repeatedly for both characters and objects, tones for some characters did not continue in tone from the first book to this one, every character had a bland neutral tone when they’re supposed to expressing deep emotions such as rage and I feel this made the experience worse through no fault of the author.
