About this listen

The long-awaited book from rugby stars Alex Payne, James Haskell and Mike Tindall

Rugby megastars James Haskell, Mike Tindall and Alex Payne get together to discuss the highs and lows of their podcast, friendship and rugby.

Among the key questions answered:

What happened when Mike took their shambles of a podcast inside the walls of Windsor Castle to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales and The Princess Royal?

How did Haskell end up nearly killing himself on the way to a DJ set, find himself forced to save Payno from Tins and get confronted by irate fans?

How did Alex’s broadcasting career fall to such depressing depths? And will it ever recover? (Spoiler alert – it won’t.)

In one, no-holds-barred book, they will go behind the scenes of the hugely successful podcast The Good, The Bad & The Rugby to pull back the curtain on some of their most outrageous antics on tour – the ups, the downs and the sideways – and leave no story untold. All will be unleashed.

Cracking listen

A great listen for any fan of the pod, or any of the chaps involved. Stories from the sublime to the ridiculous, it's heartwarming and informative. Lovely touches on mental health issues and the state of rugby in general, and life's trials and their deserved shared successes. Can't recommend it enough, just wish I could thank them all for helping me through some dreadful times whilst recovering from a serious back injury.

Apart from the court case it wasn't that interesting

Stories weren't as exciting as they made them out to be on the podcast. Their reading styles were so polarising it was a struggle. 8 hours from 6 years worth of time together was quite lacklustre.

Disparity

So I’m a massive fan of their podcast so I thought oh great when I saw this on audible. It just isn’t a good listen though. It takes far too long to get into anything of substance and they spend ages introducing themselves, describing a point of view whilst the other two contradict. Hearing three different versions of the same event might work in some mediums but it doesn’t here, it’s monotony.

James has twice as much to say as the other two combined which is a struggle as instead of telling a story naturally he has to end every anecdote or story with a quip, comparison or overused pop culture reference. It was like family guy it was that bad. It’s like he’s insecure the material can stand on its own two feet so he has to force a gag, it’s that bad I set Alexa to fast forward some of his bits. They advertised it as behind the scenes, raw and unfiltered but apart from the Court case it was very dull.

If I had spent money on this instead of a free audible credit I would have refunded.
