Summary
C.S. Lewis’s famous work on the nature of love divides love into four categories: Affection, Friendship, Eros and Charity. The first three are loves which come naturally to the human race.
Charity, however, the Gift-love of God, is divine in its source and expression, and without the sweetening grace of this supernatural love, the natural loves become distorted and even dangerous.

Well worth the time
Incredibly well explained ideas of an incredible subject. I've had so many knowing smiles as I listened to the examples and explanations and related the to my experience. Brilliant.

Excellent as usual
A very thoughtful explanation of love in all it's forms. As usual, CS Lewis does not disappoint. I particularly liked the observation that true close friendship has no obvious survival function and that people who disagree might not have experienced this for themselves. Although obviously we all need to get along to eat, live and survive, there is a unique sort of relationship that is not practical or sexual or in any way useful besides to make life worth living. This friendship is sometimes made even better by the addition of more friends to the group, unlike any sort of passion or physical needs. Lewis suggest that this is possibly the best love.
I would recommend this book to anyone.
