About this listen
It is near the end of the 21st century. Persistent war, overpopulation, and climate change have caused poverty and natural disasters like mankind has never known. When a signal offering assistance reaches Earth from an alien entity calling itself the Foundry, humanity plans a mission to the stars for first contact. In the midst of this, Milo Hughes is just another five-year-old boy who wishes nothing more than to doodle with crayons and dig in the dirt, while his parents secretly plot to join the mission—whether they were invited or not.
Caught as stowaways aboard the interstellar vessel the Vasco Da Gama, the Hughes family must convince the ship’s captain to let them stay. Milo must start over, leaving everything behind for the 40-year mission. Twenty years to the Foundry, and 20 years back. If they can survive....
Not part of the mission plan, and living in the shadow of world-class scientists obsessed with their work, Milo has to grow up and find his own path and purpose. Can the Foundry help him? Can it help humanity? When Milo comes face to face with the mysterious entity, he alone can answer these questions. His survival, and all of humanity, depend on it.

the narrator was able to bring the book to life with the way he read, and it was a captivating story if you love sci-fi!

A brilliant sci-fi adventure
It felt weird to begin with starting the story off from the perspective that it did, but it was a clever way of drawing you into the adventure. You get invested in the characters as they develop and take everything in with the same wide eye wonder as the characters. Will be looking forward to seeing how the story develops in book 2!

Oh wow!
Crikey I wasn't expecting that! I loved it. Such a great story and the characters just made me want to know what was going to happen next to them. I loved the ideas within the story, the way it twisted and turned and the things that happened to them. The narrator does a great job, I knew each character just from the voice. So, so good. I'm going to miss them now that the book is finished!

Just incredible !!!
Excellent story & perfect
timing.
The author J. Fitzpatrick Mauldin have started writing a series which fits perfectly in timing to the happening of the world of today’s date.
In perfect timing The author is writing about the doom of humanity on the planet Earth which can’t contain and feed the billions of people.
As I type this the planet has already started its fight for survival by crazy climate changes like storms and greenhouse effect, global warming, water level are rising, which means that wars are coming but not like the old territorial wars but more like wars over drinking water ( which will cost more then oil or gold ) and fruitful land for growing food, those are the wars of the future.
Excellent:
Hoping that the author will continue this into a series and that I’ll get an audio copy for reviewing.
Beautiful narration by Andrew Tell for each of the characters of this creation.
Without a doubt,
my full recommendations !!!
Oded Ostfeld.

A great start to a promising series
Loved this book. The world is nearing catastrophe, climate change and wars making the survival of humanity unlikely. A signal is received from outer space inviting us to join them. A fleet of interstellar spaceships have been built to find this new home, and our hero, a young boy, is whisked away by his parents who are both scientists to get aboard one of the ships. After many years in hibernation, they arrive at a huge space station called The Foundry, and then their problems start. The writing is excellent, with plenty of action, peril, and love affairs, and lots of nasty aliens to fight! The narration is excellent and holds your attention to the end.
