Summary

Always trust your very basic instincts or prepare for the consequences…

It was surreal returning to work after a sabbatical following the suspicious death of my best friend Livvy.

On my return to the company apartment, I was surprised to find Livvy’s replacement, Amanda Dowd, firmly entrenched as my new flatmate.

She’d seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

But something didn’t feel right. I felt on edge.

Everyone seemed to love Amanda, even my ex-Jayden was blinded by her outgoing personality and model-like looks.

Yet her desperation to become friends felt unnatural.

When I began to receive calls, photos and presents from Livvy, I became spooked. Someone was targeting me, watching me.

With my job, home and life on the line, I had to find out who was doing this to me and why.

I hadn’t caused Livvy’s death but still believed it was no accident.

Someone else was guilty and I had to find out who before I was next.

Bestseller Gemma Rogers is back with another thriller.

narration 🙈

like others have said, the narrator is terrible, more suited to theatre. I have listed to a few books now with this narrator and it completely detracts from the story. Will be looking out in future and avoiding. shame as the plot was great.

Let down by strange narration

The story is good enough but the narration is terrible! At first I thought she was deliberately trying to sound drunk - strange intonation, slow/slurred words. And the voices for other characters! Cringe!

I almost gave up after the first few chapters but then tried listening at x1.5 speed. This has made it manageable to listen to, but oh, what a shame!

Enjoyable thriller

I wanted something easy on read and listen to and this delivered. The story is enjoyable enough if not for a few comedy plot holes. Audible performance I'm torn on, absolute 10/10 for effort and care but can be really annoying in a lot of places! Not enough to not recommend though.

Narration

Book story okay but the narration was weird and beyond awful. Really distracted from the story-kept persevering but would rather read this one than listen again.

Please please please change narrator!

I'm sure I would really enjoy these books if I could concentrate on anything other than the horrendous narration. It's beyond ridiculous. The narrator puts EXTREME levels of emphasis on completely random words, and it's constant. It completely ruins these books and I've no clue why you can't hear that. A psychological thriller isn't meant to resemble a very OTT pantomime dame. The annoying part is that when the lady reads the odd few words in a normal tone, she actually has a really nice voice and could be a good narrator if she just read it normally!

Annoying narration

The overall story was pretty good, Although a little predictable, I did want to get to the end to find the final outcome.
The narration was awful. The narrator read as if it was a parody of a narrator, by putting emphasis on every other word in each sentence. She also sounded incredibly angry, even in situations where no anger was required. If it hadn't have been for the fact that I'd given up on 2 of my pervious audio books, I would have given up on this one too.

Couldn’t finish

I rarely comment on narration, probably don’t need to but this was off the scale terrible. The reader had a pleasant voice but in character it was unbelievably grating to the point I was gritting my teeth. Gave up

Good listen

Good listen
Listening each day driving to and from work in one week.
The narrators voice sometimes made me wench especially when she did the men’s voices.
And the main character was sometimes a bit weak in places causing to shout out at her stupidity at times.
But all in all, I’m a fan of Gemma Rogers and have enjoyed all of her books so far.
Looking to the next one.
