Summary
The third title in the John Puller series to follow Zero Day and The Forgotten. Military CID investigator, John Puller, has returned from his latest case in Florida to learn that his brother, Bobby, on death row at Leavenworth Military Prison for national security crimes, has escaped.
Preliminary investigations show that he may have had help in his breakout. Now he's on the run, and in disguise, and he's the military's number-one target. John Puller has a dilemma. Which comes first, loyalty to his country or to his brother? Bobby has state secrets that certain people will literally kill for. But blood is thicker than water, and the brothers are close although even John does not know for sure what Bobby really did for the government, nor if he's even guilty of his crimes. It becomes swiftly apparent, however, that Bobby's role was powerful and far-reaching. With the help of John's long-time friend and colleague, General Julie Carson, both brothers move closer to the truth from their opposing directions. And this case puts John Puller in a place he thought he'd never be, on the other side of the law, where even his skills as an investigator, and his strength as a fighter, might not be enough to save him. And his brother.

Great book but....
I have 3 gripes, 1. Shinned his light, shinned not shone? 2. Lighted the room not lit, and 3, and the most annoying, is the sound effects! This is an audio book, we don't need music and gun fire etc, I would just be dozing off and bam, you're jolted back to being wide awake. I think it would've beenfar better had it just had narration.
On the whole I would still highly recommend this book as the story is great, especially if you have listened to the previous 2 in the series.

Nice story - but sometimes rather... simplistic
Aside the story, that was nice if sometimes simplistic and naive, what I dislike is vices over the narrator along with explosions and such - nightmare if you listen while going to bed and your significant other has fallen to sleep only to wake up to the sounds of explosions...

Brilliant
As a Jack Reacher fan I wasn't sure if John Puller could compare but after listening to all 3 books I can say he does. Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy are brilliant narrators.

Thrilling with great twists and turns
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book has it all, a great story with real characters and enough twists and turns to make you sea sick.
What other book might you compare The Escape to, and why?
One of the things I really like about David Balldaci's books is the plot is always different there is no 'it's a Camel Club book, so it must be about.... Or it's. John Puller book so the theme must be about x y or z. This is a fresh, exciting book and stands alone in the series.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
It has to be when the Puller's get to the cottage, and find who the other 'baddie' is!
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
And round the next corner is......
Any additional comments?
A book that leaves me wanting more of John Puller.

David Baldacci excels again
Would you listen to The Escape again? Why?
Yes, I will certainly listen to the Escape again in a couple of years time, the story is excellent and the descriptions of life from a modern US Army Officer's perspective are fascinating.
This is the latest (third) book from David Baldacci about John Puller and all three stories are excellent. After waiting for a year or two then I look forward to listening to all three stories again, hopefully then followed by book 4 and 5 about John Puller.
I like exciting crime fiction but I don't like to read/listen to detailled descriptions of cruelty ... I listen to audiobooks for pleasure, not horror. David Baldacci writes in a style that I enjoy immensely.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Escape?
The scenes with the father are an extraordinary subplot. General Puller has dementia, the lucid moments are touching and the manner in which John Puller manages the relationship to his father is very touching.
What about Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s performance did you like?
They are a great team. The way in which they provide voices for the characters is amazing, it is so easy to become completely immersed in the John Puller books, excellent.
Any additional comments?
This is book three in the John Puller series. I would certainly recommend listening to the books in the correct order.

another excellent Baldacci thriller
DB's stories are always full of intrigue, twists and thrills. listening to the female narrator (Orla Cassidy?) is pretty hard going. She has a strange way of relating . This won't stop me listening, but I wish it could go back to the earlier books narrator and just one ?
