About this listen

Life is full of choices. Death... is chosen for you...

When the body of a missing tourist is discovered slain in the foothills of the Cuillin Mountain range, it falls to D.I. Duncan McAdam and his small team to discover how he came to be there and who would have a motive to kill him.

The summer season is a welcome distraction following a brutal and challenging winter. The Isle of Skye is booming with a revitalised tourist trade after a tough few years, and the Misty Isle is on course for its best year for visitors on record. But one person has not received the warm greeting the islanders are famed for. Here, on the inner Hebridean island, long-held secrets, past crimes and burning resentment are set to be unveiled in the most brutal fashion.

Some people come to the island to experience a return to nature, others to detach from their hectic lives seeking a simpler existence. And then there are those who wish to escape their past and begin again. These people believe they are making a fresh start but overlook one universal truth, their sins come with them... and there will be a reckoning...

The Cuillin Dead is the fourth book in the new Amazon #1 bestselling Misty Isle series from the multi-million selling crime writer, J M Dalgliesh, the author of the Hidden Norfolk and Dark Yorkshire books.

Good Scottish noir lifted further by excellent narration

Cops investigate a tourist murder on Skye (although apart from naming a few tourist honeypots could have been anywhere in Scotland). Plenty of dialogue but brought to life by excellent narration by Angus King, Many characters, which can get confusing when they’re sometimes referred to by christian names, sometimes by surnames. Another tale where most the work seems to be done by the DI and his trusty sarge sidekick, but it’s fiction so that ok. Overall enjoyable and will listen to another in the series.

A great ensemble Scottish detective series

Listened to all four Duncan macadam books in one week . I think this author , like many of his Caledonian peers uses the landscape as a key character as well as the social context for a well penned who dunnit . At times the author runs out of superlatives, for describing Scotlands largest island, perhaps using stunning too often. Then if you’ve ever been to the Hebrides you know there aren’t enough words to describe the majesty of the place . Dalgliesh alongside delivering great plots offers fabulous insights into the experience of island life & how it can get disrupted by weather, tourists and a local boy returning as a detective

The storyline is quite different in each book but the roads, lochs & skye’s cid team have evolved into a believable crime solving gang.

I looking forward to meeting them and the wonderful Angus king again soon

Brilliant plot, fabulous writing, and excellent narration

What a compelling listen! I loved everything about it, including the way the landscape is like an additional character in the book.

Another Excellent Book

The DI Duncan McAdam series is excellent. Everything about each book, the plots and the characters are just spot on. Angus King narrates and helps the plot, characters and description of the Scottish scenery pop from the pages - an excellent and talented narrator.
Looking forward to book 5 now so I hope JMD is close to publishing soon.

Interesting about the setting

Great story. Idiosyncratic reading but it somehow fits with the setting and the plot. I recommend this book

Loved all four stories

What four great stories. Finding it hard to imagine the scenery and the weather changes but also imagining the scenery. The characters banter made you feel as if you were part of the story which made it enjoyable to listen too.
